A Home From Home - Alder Hey Children's Hospital

Alder Hey Children's Hospital, a second home to a wide variety of children and young people across the North of England and the UK, it continues to be Europe's busiest Children's Hospital, and have over 20 specialist services. Alder Hey is situated in Liverpool, Merseyside with most hospital facilities on that site.

Within the past few years Alder Hey has built several new units; Onocology, Hispathology and a HDU unit. It has one of the largest peadiatric A&E departments, as well as a world renowed Cardiology department. It boasts its Intensive Care Unit, as the first Peadiatric Intensive Care Unit of its Kind, as well as the forefront of modern anaethesia within Children.

Alder Hey has doctors to cater for most medical needs for peadiatrics, many of which are highly recognised and noted at the highest levels. Special centers within the hospital have won awards and Alder Hey continues to grow.

During 2003 onwards, Alder Hey has began the process of putting a big together in order to take a share of the 8.5 million put aside for M.E patients and care. Under the guidance of Dr Derek Proudlove, Consultant Psyciatrist. Dr Proudlove believes 'ME  to be a physical illness and that the management of children's ME should be led by the young patient themselves and that they should not be pushed into doing more than they feel capable'.

Alder Hey continues to the lead the way within many medical aspects within peadiatrics, with M.E being one. For many Alder Hey is a home from home.
