 Pan Terms

Panguingue (pronounced "pan-ginn'-gay"), often called Pan for short, was a staple of the gambling halls during the Californian gold rush in the mid-1800's, and this Rummy variation remains popular in many regions, particularly in the western United States and Southern Florida.

Panguingue is an unusual game, played with 320 cards and up to 15 players. Pan also has it's own unique and colorful lingo:

Bong A 4-pay or special (3 threes, fives or sevens, all in spades).

Comoquers Two cards of the same rank and suit, 2's through Queens (also known as "Smokers").

Condition Size of the game or chip value.  Certain spreads that allow a player to immediately collect chips from his opponents.

Conditions Certain melds.

Flat Ten cards melded, waiting to go out.

Going On Top A player deciding not to play.

Kondition Alternate spelling for "condition."

Meld A legal spread of sets or ropes.

Muck The Discard Pile.

Mucker Pan Dealer.

Non-Comoquers Aces and Kings

Non-Valle Cards Cards of rank other than 3's, 5's, 7's (non-value).

Option Card Card not used by the player who drew it.

Panguingue Rummy-style game. Possibly of Filipino Origin Meaning “Bread Spanish Deck.”

Peckered A hand with pay which never gets down.  When another player goes out before you get any of your pays down.

Pisser A weak hand with no pays.

Pluck To take the top card off the deck.

Rope A spread of three or more cards in sequence and of the same suit.  (Also known as a "Stringer").

Set Three cards or more of the same rank, either all of the same suit, or all of different suits (also known as a "Square"). Non-Comoquers (aces and kings) may be melded regardless of suit.

Sluff To discard a hand before play starts.

Smoked When a player holding two cards of equal rank and different suits draws another card matching one of the previous cards, he's been "smoked" (he's holding an invalid set).

Smokers Two cards of the same rank and suit, 2's through Queens (also known as "Comoquers").

Spread To lay down a rope or a set.  A Meld.

Square Three cards or more of the same rank, either all of the same suit, or all of different suits (also known as a "Set").

Stay To decide to play a hand.

Stripped Deck A deck in which a full set of spades and extra three, five and seven of spades have been removed.

Stringer A meld consisting of a sequence of three or more cards of the same suit (also known as a "Rope").

Tops A predetermined amount which each player must post individually in the pot prior to being dealt a hand.

Valle Cards 3's, 5's, & 7's; all other cards are non-valle (non-value) cards (Note: "valle" is pronounced "valley").
