| Movement Againt the Monarchy bows out gracefully....... The highly successful NGO MAM has finally closed its activities following arrests by the Metropolitan police and Special branch operatives, Welsh Republican Comment reveals. MA'M and anti-monarchist activists were targeted by the authorities in the uprun to the anti-Jubilee events in 2002-3. This resulted in the false arrest of 41 activists, and the eventual award of damages by the Metropolitan Police. MA'M has since been put on ice. It came out only to assist in disrupting Charles and Camilla's wedding, a royal fiasco which, frankly, in the end didn't need any help in disrupting (thanks Mrs Windsor). Although temporarily suspended, former MA'Msters continue to be involved in anti-hierarchical activities, and might one day resurrect MA'M or something similar. "MAM has done a terrific job in its campaigning work and it will be sadly missed by the British/English Republican Community from which it drew most of its strength and membership. We hope to see it return again one day. The greatest gift we can now give to MA'M is to work for the removal of this highly discredited form of government from the UK and work towards true parity with the other home nations as independent states, working togther as equals", comments Chris Davies, Editor Welsh Republican Comment. |
