| HORSE HOROSCOPE Would you like to know what your horses sign is? Then check it out here, maybe read a little about that signs personality and traits. This is all for fun, so please don't take what you read seriously, though there are some good points within. CAPRICORN: (Dec. 22-Jan. 21) Only a few horses are born during the cold winter months, which may help to explain why Capricorn youngsters act so silly. But they grow to be such serious-minded adults that you may not believe thier acquired dependability. Often grey or chestnut in color, this horse may have enlarged knees or perhaps some knee trouble. He's a hard worker with excellent performance potential for plowing or driving where style is not too important. AQUARIUS: (Jan. 22-Feb. 21) Your Aquarian is often rather tall and then--not the easiest keeper and perhaps has some silly moments from time to time. Prone to problems concerniing the ankles or fetlocks, your leggy Aquarian horse loves the outdoors and will not be happy spending all his days inside the cozy barn. He definitely has a mind of his own. He is and excellent trail or endurance prospect, but be sure to outfit him with ankle boots. He's curious and makes a good man's horse. PISCES: (Feb. 22-March 21) You have a moody daydreamer here, usually with large, experessive eyes. Often forgetful of training lessons already learned, this horse has lots of foot problems. Your best friend is a good farrier, and it is wise to pay careful attention to hoof cleaning regimens--remember no hoof, no horse. This horse has the potential to be a pretty good all-around riding animal for children and adults although he can be a little lazy. Don't depend on him to bring you out of the woods if you lose the trail. He has to know he can trust the rider for maximum performance, which he is capable of delivering. ARIES: (March 22-April 21) Oftne smallish and frequently sorrel or chestnut, this fireball is fun and fractious. Quick for shorter bursts, impatient whether being fed or mounted (when you put your foot in the stirrup be ready to ride), he is often headshy and sensitive around his head and ears. Carefully handling him when he is a colt will prevent a lot of problems.with bridles later on. Don't snatch a bridle off. Quick moves near an Aries horse will bring on lots of shying and attempting to get away. This horse is not the best prospect for a beginner or shy rider, no matter how old the mount may be. Generally, Aries horses, don't have long life spans. TAURUS: (April 22-May 21) He's probably a pretty critter, small but well proportioned with, perhaps a short thick neck that won't sweat much. He will have one or more dimples somewhere is generally darker in color--if chestunt, then liver chestnut, if palomino, then chocolate palomino. Not nearly as active or fractius as his Aries stablemate, the Taurus horse is incredibly stubborn and somewhat short tempered in certain areas. When he gets something in his head, it stays there forever. He's a hard worker, willing to do almost anything he is asked as long as he understands the request, which requires early training with lots of repetition. He is nervous and gets confused. He also doesn't have the sharpest vision of the zodiac. The Taurus horse is not naturally cranky until he gets older, however, if someone helps him to develope an early hatred of man, nothing will change it. He has a tendencey to get fat, so watch his ration carefully. GEMINI: (May 22-June21) Your Gemini horse is generally tall and leggy, smart and active--very active, fretting with this or that, shaking his curb chain, playing with the bit. Built for speed like an arrow, his main problem is an inability to focus on a task. His visison is acute and everything attracts his attention. He's curious, the one who will touch the hotwire first. If you can get him to gather his energies when you need them, you probably have a winning race animal. Keep a careful watch for repiritory problems and infections however, since he is much more prone to broken wind, pneumonia, etc. He's also not an easy keeper. He frets weight away, but does like to nibble a lot. Free choice, good quality hay that not too high in protein (no more than 10%) keeps your Gemini horse at his best. He's moody and is likely to be a kicker, so keep your eyes on his ears, especially when you are working around him on the ground. CANCER: (June 22-July 21) Another big eyed horse, this one tends toward being lighter in color--roany, with a lighter mane and tail, usually thick and full. The Cancer horse has a tendency to have a rather large barrel and is an easy keeper, so be especially careful of the type and amounts of feed you use. Frequently of large-boned, sturdy build, a Cancer horse gets fat fast. This is the broodmare of the zodiac (where Scorpio is the stallion) or the workhorse, the one useful for plowing or pulling great weights. Often moody, this horse is usually tractable and easy going, but not necessarily with much speed. These are the animals you will find in the best conditioned sections of the endurance clubs as long as the owner carefully controls the feeding program. The hair coat is often glowing without to much effort on the owners part. But Cancer horses can be prone to colic. They are also cranky in their stalls or if someone approaches their stall. LEO: (July 22-August 21) These horses can be either large or small, but they all possess a regal air or bearing. There is usually something unusual about a Leo horses maine or tail: color, amount of hair, length. The horse may dislike having it braided, knotted, braced or handled. Not overly fond of water, this horse may resent being bathed or having his face washed. He gets upset over changes and may even go off feed when he is moved to another stall or owner. It is especially good to introduce new things to your Leo horse gradually. He likes crowds and makes a good show animal or parade horse. He is a dependable mount, excellent for stylish driving competitions. Leo, isn't moody, but can get high around crowds of any kind. He responds well to training and doesn't forget. Be careful when conditioning your Leo horse after a layoff, because he may give too much. Health considerations include heart problems and back/spinal problems and injuries. Leo horses live fairly long lives. VIRGO: (August 22-Sept. 21) Smallish thin and nervous, this horse may be quite a cribber. He is often fearful and shy--not a beginners horse. Virgo can run in short quick bursts and makes a good gymkhana horse for an experiennced rider. He will shy, but makes a super polebending prospect and an excellent barrel horse. He is quite athletic, if not too long backed. If long backed, avoid polebending Some what fragil, Virgo is a picky eater and has a tendency twoard intestinal and bowel problems. It is important to be sure that the Virgo horse has fresh water at all times. SCORPIO: (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) The stallion of zodiac, Scorpio is smaller in stature and often the darkest in color. Both stallion and mare will have a tendency to "growl" when nickering. Basically shy, Scorpio has a tendency to hold a grudge toward bad handlers. This aninal is highly focused and hard to distract. He can be extremely temperamental and stubborn. He ;is not one to be beaten into submission for he has many tricks up his sleeve. He can work and handle easily, but care must be taken when dealing with him when he is young, because a Scorpio horse never forgets. A major concrn with Scorpio is his tendency toward parasites. He will require more deworming and more careful deworming than other star types. SAGITTARIUS (Nov.22-Dec. 21) Sagittarius is the ruler of the horse--the symbol is half man, half horse--but not many horses are born under this winter sign. When you do find a Sagittarius horse, however, he'll be a small, busy, even hyperactive animal. Thoroughly enjoying the freedom to run where he pleasses. He'll have a long cannon bone, strong thighs and a tendency toward hip problems. He can jump, run and is generally an outstanding athletic individual, enjoying movement for its own sake. He resents restriction in any form, so avoid tight reins, tight girths, tight anything. His attention span is very short, and speed rather than complicated movement is his forte. (Not a dressage prospect) He is socialble toward both man and beast and enjoys company, but can survive alone. I hope that you have enjoyed this. Remember, take most of what you read with a grain of salt, not all horses fit the scenarios mentioned, yours may have a little of each and everyone of these signs in his makeup. |
