Welcome to Wisconsin Genealogy and
Wisconsin Surnames - - - the First MSN Genealogy Communities devoted solely to Wisconsin. 

Wisconsin Genealogy is a community concerned with all aspects of family history research except surname posting, while Wisconsin Surnames has been created for the sole purpose of posting names you are researching.

Our goal is to provide meeting places for people researching their Wisconsin roots where they can meet others with similar interests and hopefully help each other find the information we need to expand our Family Tree.  We welcome anyone with an interest in family history, whether you are a casual beginner just starting to gather information, or a professional genealogist with years of experience.  I am not a professional genealogist by any means and it is not my intent to be able to answer all your questions or provide all the tools you need for your research, however I felt there was a need for a community where people with a common interest could meet and help each other find the answers and to share information we have developed that may be helpful to others.

In Wisconsin Genealogy we have several categories where you can find and contribute information of a specific nature.  The Message Board is for posting questions and answers, general information, and a common meeting place.  Links is a collection of addresses of other Web sites that may be of interest to the members; Recommendations is where you'll find lists of specific books, software, etc. pertinent to our common goal; File Cabinet is where you can place information that you have obtained and could be of help to others; Photo Album is where we can post photos of ourselves, ancestors, WI places and events of interest to genealogists, or just about any photo you want to share.  Member Profile is where we can tell other members something about ourselves - - - and we hope you will post a short bio. so that we can know each other.  The success of our communities depends on the spirit of sharing - - give and take.  We hope that you will contribute as much to the community as you take from it, and we urge you to post the Links, Recommendations, and other information you have.  Very honestly, if your goal is only to gain information from others and not contribute to the pool of information, we don't want you!

The Surnames community is solely for posting names you are researching in the hopes that someone will recognize the name and you can share information.  The community does not have the capability to alphabetize the list, so we urge you to view the list often and update your posting when the original falls far down the list.  If you are a member you may reply directly to the message board under the posting of the name.  However, knowing that there will be visitors who also view the list, we suggest that you post your email address so that they may reply to you directly.  Visitors cannot post to the message board.  Remember - - the only names that may be posted to the list are those with a Wisconsin connection.  The person must have been a WI resident at some time.  If a WI location is not mentioned in the posting, it will be deleted.
