Chris's mother and father are shown above in the backgarden of their house, Oaklea.  Annie Stewart GILMOUR, married John (but known to all as Iain) MELVIN on 2 July 1948. John / Iain was born in Rutherglen, Glasgow, on 27 February 1905 and died on 2 May 1991.

His parents were John MELVIN and Christina Elizabeth DEWAR. 

They married on 2 January 1895 in Kenmore, Perth.

John was born on 5 December 1858 in Dumbarton and died on 7 May 1945 in Bothwell, Lanark. Christina was born in Drumnalarig, Finlay, Killin on 18 December 1871 and her surname was often spelt differently (e.g. DEWARE on her birth certificate). They had 2 other children, Alexander Buchanan MELVIN (5 Oct 1897 - 26 Dec 1962) and Duncan Dewar MELVIN.

John's parents were Alexander MELVIN and Margaret BUCHANAN and they were married on 31 December 1855. Alexander was born on Christmas Day 1833 but died sometime before his son John's wedding in 1895. He was a boilermaker (journeyman) / ship builder living in Anderston, Glasgow in 1856 and in Dumbarton in 1858. Apart from John they had 5 other children: Alexander (10 Nov 1856 - 14 Dec 1858); Agnes (born 20 Dec 1860); Catherine (born 10 Dec 1864) and William (8 March 1867 (or in some documents 1868) to 11 May 1946).
