Yamey
Almost nothing is known about the origins of this family.
The meaning of the name is not known.
-
The family left Lithuania at the end of the 19th and during early 20th centuries. Towns of Plunge (Plungyan) and (?)Kuliai [ at least a town with a name sounding like "coolie"].
-
Some went to South Africa and may well have changed the name JAMI to YAMEY.
-
A branch of our family in the USA has the name JAMI which may be the original form of spelling.
-
Neither YAMEY nor JAMI is a typical lithuanian name.
-
Pronunciation of YAMEY varies: yammy, yar-me, yay-me. I use the latter!
