My name is Yahaira Garcia, am 6 months old, I've had been diagnose with Zellweger Syndrome.
I was born on August 24, 2007 in Riverdale, Georgia.
With only 7 lb 8 oz, been born into this world was the biggest gift of all. My life was full of surprises. When I was born, my mommy never imagines what god had for me. After birth complications were present. I presented jaundice and had problems eating. At that time I was diagnose with failure to thrive and I was a floppy baby “Hypotonia”.
My home was the hospital. I visit different specialist, each one was trying to figure out what was wrong with me. Lab tests and other exams were perform, but everything came back negative.
To treat my low tone, I had therapy everyday. I had OT, Speech, and Physical therapy. Mommy was always by my side, she was always cheering me on,
I had the opportunity to visit my mommy country, which was Mexico. I even visit and got to meet the beach in person

My symptoms were, low muscle tone, failure to thrive, seizures that were control with medication. And sometime the medication would not have an effect. My liver was getting bigger than normal. But mommy nor myself ever imagine it was Zellweger Syndrome.
On January 26, 2007 I was hospitalize in Atlanta, due to a simple fever. Not knowing that in a few hours mommy was going to get a diagnose to all my symptoms.
As mommy received the news along with daddy, it was hard for them to understand and realize what was going on. They questioned themselves, asking How? Why? But the answer was only god knows.
Now am in a Hospice Center, that’s my home with mommy. Am happy, having people who care. My nurses are very nice and they all spoiled me I’m the baby of this facility. Everyday new friends come and visit me. They bring me gifts such as teddy bears and dolls. Am happy here, but hopefully I would be able to go back home someday.
On February 23rd, 2007 the doctor form the hospice discharge me. He said I was doing just fine and that i was able to go back home with my brother and mother. That was the greatest news we could have received.
Now that am at home, am living a normal lifeb again. Am with my brother 'Antonio', my grandma & grandpa, aunty, and of course my mother. Everyday I have a nurse coming in and out, who is keeping an eye on me.
My mommy is giving me medication every hour, if needed.
I've just turned 6 months old on 2/24/07, and am proving the doctors wrong, I was able to live up to be 6 months old, , , and will turn 7,8,9, months and so on.
Mommy believes in miracles, and I do too......
