EUS Centenary Beer Festival 10th and 11th September 2005 12 noon- 8pm ESCA are pleased to support the Edinburgh University Settlement Centenary Beer Festival to be held in the old brewery site on Chambers Street (just behind the Architecture department) on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th of September. It is hoped that this will be the first of many annual beer festivals run by the Settlement, and if you are in town and fancy a nice pint, some great entertainment and fantastic food, come along and support this terrific event. We are also looking for a number of volunteers to get involved and help out during the event. If you are interested in lending a hand then get in touch with settlementevents@hotmail.co.uk and we'll take it from there. Please support this event. Settlement have worked closely with ESCA for many years and without them we may not have been here now. What better way can you think of to give something back than to turn up and buy a few beers. -
Talent in a good cause for Valentine’s Day: We Only Have Each Other Design Links has joined with online magazine www.coolgossip-edinburgh.com to help promote a major fundraising effort in support of tsunami relief work. It’s all the idea of Naomi Ness, singer with the band Los Agustitos, who has brought together no fewer than 13 Edinburgh bands under the ‘Deep Aid’ banner to produce the CD single “We Only Have Each Other”. Design Links feels really privileged to be involved with some of the best of Scotland’s young talent - people who are truly international in outlook, in the best Scottish tradition.Written by Tim Lomas of Edinburgh band Ruff Hand, it is hoped the CD single will raise thousands of pounds for relief work in the tsunami disaster area. Lovers across the city and beyond are urged to buy the aptly titled CD for Valentine’s Day and as a gift of true love. Go to (link on DL site) to preview the song, which is available at a price of £4-00 from the following outlets: Avalanche, Scayles, Drum Central and Napiers. The single can also be ordered from Deep Aid by emailing deepaid@hotmail.co.uk for payment details. Thanks to generous donors and supporters, there are no production costs to cover – so ALL PROCEEDS will go directly to UNICEF and to a local relief agency in Sri Lanka. -

Wednesday, November 10, 2004 This is what I am listening to at work today in preparation for tonight's gig: Agustitos supporting The Big Hand at Potterrow - Deep Fried at Potterrow. Lots of Manu Chao covers from the wonderful (and not to mention rather attractive) Agustitos, who are in no way paying me to write lovely things about them. The Big Hand never fail to please, well not on stage at any rate, so it should be a good night. Shame it's a student union gig, which always presents issues of trying to get people guest listed or signed in. Hmm, is it rather pathetic to buy life membership on the strength of one monthly band night? Oh well, too late. -
