| NATIVE AMERICAN ANIMAL TOTEM Introduction We have animals who accompany us on our spiritual journey. Our ancestors believe that there was communication between animals and humans. We can communicate to the animals as long as we are still and hear the guides speaking to us. We used to respect the animals, kill only what we needed. The skins, we used for clothing and shelter. Nearly every parts of the animals was used, never wasted. When the animal gave his life up to feed and clothe us, we would thank the animal and leave a offering and a pray. Our Elders and Ancestors gave recognition to the animal's power by wearing the skins, masks, and imitating them in dances. This does allows us to remain linked to the animal spirit guides, accepting the powers the animal offer us in life, daily lessons and in our deaths. They are our brothers, sisters, cousins, ancestors, friends and teachers. It reminds us that we are also animals with spirit. These animals play an important role in teaching our younger generation.Every animal has its own message and special powers for us to listen to and understand them.
