Georgie’s golden moments-TV Week Website 13th January
The fabulous Ms Parker strolls down memory lane to revisit her Logies wins.
She’s won seven TV WEEK Logie Awards, including two Gold Logies, but Georgie Parker says the thrill of receiving Australia’s top TV award never wears off – even when it’s her All Saints castmates taking home the trophies.
“When Erik (Thomson) and Libby (Tanner) won the Most Popular Actor awards in 2003, it was fantastic. When you’re in a show and somebody from that show wins an award, everybody in the show wins.”
Georgie didn’t have much luck when she was young, which makes the TV WEEK Logies even more special. “I never won raffles. I never won anything,” she laughs. “So the first time I won a Logie, when they read my name out I thought they’d made a mistake… each time I win, I think they’ve made a mistake!"
“It’s bizarre to think of me being held in the same regard as I hold some people, like Bert Newton, Don Lane, Mike Walsh and Lorrae Desmond,” Georgie smiles when reminded of her rightful place as a TV WEEK Logies legend. “I grew up watching them and I have an enormous sense of nostalgia when I see them now.”
The beautiful actress sees a deeper importance in the annual TV WEEK Logies pilgrimage – the ceremony’s rightful place in Australian culture.
“The Logies are so important for our industry as a whole to acknowledge the work we do. The viewers always tune in because it’s become an iconic part of our culture. The arts is the way we see ourselves.”
But it’s not just the cultural aspect Georgie enjoys. “Logies night is hysterical. You can always find someone who is not behaving themselves.”
Thanks for the memories
She’s done thousands of TV scenes in 15 years in the business, but when TV WEEK asked Georgie Parker to name her three most memorable scenes of all time, she didn’t even need time to think.
The moment: Giving birth in A Country Practice Why it’s memorable: “I was a 25-year-old girl who was pretending to push out a baby! Experienced medical people were on set to make sure it was as realistic as possible. It was a very moving moment because we had a real baby on set."
The moment: Getting married to Mitch in All Saints Why it’s memorable: “It was very full-on! Because I was very pregnant in real life I had all these hormones racing through my body making me happy. I was ecstatic about being pregnant. But for this scene I had to act extremely upset. I was so happy I had a really hard time crying.”
The moment: Mitch’s death in All Saints Why it’s memorable: “It was very draining because I was not only acting very emotional and upset, I actually was very upset because I was losing an actor I loved working with. It was a real tragedy.”
