Making sense of the Logies

By Gusworld

04/05/2002: Almost a week has passed since the 2002 Logies. Talkback radio has stopped bitching about Wendy Harmer's hosting, TV networks have prepared new promos for their award-winning shows, and everyone has shown their post-Logies party reports. For all intents and purposes, we can forget about the whole thing until next year. Except . . .

While I would have liked to see Rove win the Gold Logie, it didn't surprise me that Georgie Parker took it home for the second time. What makes absolutely no sense is that Parker's popularity didn't translate to the Silver Logie for best actress, which went to her All Saints co-star Libby Tanner. Tanner was also a finalist for the Gold, but didn't win it.

Try as I might, I can't make sense of this. Tanner is more popular than Parker when it comes to doing the job they both do (acting), but Parker is more popular than Tanner when it comes to the major award (which isn't really for anything other than being famous). This seems like a very odd statistical anomaly.

The only explanation I can think of is that people decided that they really wanted Georgie to win the gold, but didn't want to hurt Libby's feelings so they voted for her as most popular actress. Somehow, though, I don't think the readers of TV Week are that subtle.
