When Janet first paid her sibling a visit in Pine Valley in 1991, she became so smitten with Natalie's significant other, cop Trevor Dillon, that she set about remaking herself in Natalie's image in the hope of winning Trevor for herself. To seal the deal, Janet threw Natalie down a well. Janet didn't just look like her sister anymore - she became her sister!
That same year, Janet, posing as Natalie, exchanged vows of love with Trevor. Her act was so good that he even took his new bride to bed. When the awful truth came to light, Janet became increasingly dangerous: She kidnapped Trevor's niece, Hayley Vaughan, and shot the girl's boyfriend, Brian Bodine.
Trevor wanted nothing more than to wring Janet's neck, but he couldn't. She still had one trick up her sleeve. In jail, she revealed to him that she was carrying his child!
Prison bars did little to slow down Janet's reign of terror. In 1992, it was revealed that she had snuck out at least once, long enough to bludgeon Will Cortlandt, whose marriage to Hayley was distracting Trevor from Janet and their unborn baby. Later, Janet escaped again and kidnapped Natalie with every intention of murdering her. Before Janet could do the deed, she went into labor. Her captive, Natalie, helped deliver Janet and Trevor's daughter, Amanda.
After undergoing radical cosmetic surgery in prison in 1994, Janet was granted a prison pardon. She resumed a life in Pine Valley. Going by the name Jane Cox, she reintroduced herself to Trevor, now a widower, and once again managed to get the him to the altar. This time, her plot was foiled by Harold, Tim Dillon's faithful mutt, who wasn't fooled for a minute by Janet's new face.
Janet was so infuriated by Trevor's marriage plans with Laurel Montgomery in 1995 that she decided to crash their wedding and plug the bride. At the last minute, realizing what such an act would do to Amanda, she changed her mind and was struck by lightning.
Wandering in the woods, Janet was helped by Laura Kirk, a young runaway, and Pierce Riley, a former soldier haunted by his past. Janet and Pierce became lovers, but only temporarily. He fell hard for Brooke English, prompting Janet to hatch a new scheme, which, as always happens, blew up in her face.
In 1996, Janet realized that Dr. Jonathan Kinder was really an evil monster and she tried to warn Erica of what she had learned. At this same time, Jonathan had kidnapped Bianca as a way to get revenge on Erica. Erica and Janet figured out that Joanthan was holding Bianca at Marian vacant house, but when they arrived, Bianca accidentally pushed Joanthan down the stairs and the women thought he was dead. Wanting to protect Bianca from the trauma, Janet and Erica decided to take care of Jonathan's corpse themselves and buried the body in Erica's flower garden! As it turned out, however, Joanthan wasn't dead at all. When the truth came out that his body wasn't in the grave, Janet, Erica and Sky Chandler tracked Jonathan down in the Caribbean and successfully brought him back to Pine Valley to face the authorities.
In 1997, Janet was drawn back to the well where she'd left her own sister to die. After learning about her "friend" Janet's sordid past, little Amanda had gone to check out the well herself and had fallen in. After Janet saved her, Trevor, his attitude toward Janet softening, gently informed his daughter of her mother's identity. With that show of faith, Janet From Another Planet came down to earth permanently.
Janet was thrilled to have a relationship with her daughter, and was also proud of all the positive changes she had made in her life. Janet and Trevor were truly falling in love and this didn't sit well with Trevor's son Tim. Tim tried to make it look as though Janet had locked him in an abandoned meat locker to die, but Trevor quickly figured out the truth. After getting a message from his late mother Natalie, Tim gave Janet and Trevor's relationship his blessing.
Trevor proposed to Janet, who wanted to marry Trevor with all her heart. Tim expressed to Trevor his disapproval of his relationship with Janet. Tim began his vendetta against Janet and threatened to tell Amanda that Janet had killed Will Cortlandt. Janet was shocked to receive clippings of her nefarious past with a threatening note from Tim. Janet then told Trevor that they needed a break from each other. Trevor found Tim's threatening note to Janet and realized why she was staying away from him.
On Halloween, Janet opened her door to a crowbar-smashed pumpkin that Tim had planted. Brooke told Janet that Amanda knew Janet was the "Crowbar Killer" and Janet confronted Amanda with the truth of her past. Tim, desperate to get Janet out of Trevor's life, wrongfully accused Janet of locking him in a meat locker. Janet broke off her relationship with Trevor after realizing that he did not know whether to believe her or Tim. Trevor brought Tim to the police station to make a statement and Janet announced that she could prove her innocence by taking a lie detector test. The results came in and Derek told Janet that the test did not prove that she was telling the truth. When Trevor made Tim recount his story, Trevor found a discrepancy from his earlier story and got Tim to admit that he lied. Trevor informed Janet about Tim's confession and then declared his love for her. Trevor asked Janet to marry him. Meanwhile, Tim showed up at Natalie's grave and told her that everything he did had been for her and that he was running away before Trevor sent him away.
Tim was jumped in an alley by two thugs and was almost knocked out when a mystery woman sent the thugs running away. Tim realized that his savior was Natalie, who encouraged Tim to try to forgive Janet and added that he would always have his mom looking out for him. Alone by Natalie's grave, Janet vowed to leave Trevor if Natalie would help protect Tim. Tim apologized to Janet, but explained that it was because Natalie said he should. Janet then kept her promise to Natalie and told Trevor that she would not marry him.
Even though Tim had already had a change of heart towards Janet, she told Trevor that she couldn't marry him because she was going to go back to her ex-husband, Axel Green. Trevor insisted on meeting Axel and Janet was forced to hire an actor to portray her ex-husband. Trevor soon realized what was going on and arranged to throw Janet's wedding to Axel. In the end, Trevor walked down the aisle with Janet and they were married in 1998.
The Dillon family faced a crisis of their own when Harold became ill. Amanda held out hope that Harold would be okay, but Janet and Trevor feared the problem might be more serious. Harold underwent medical tests and everyone hoped for the best. The Dillons learned the sad news that Harold had cancer and he didn't have long to live. After giving Harold the best final days possible, Trevor and Janet explained to Tim and Amanda that they needed to end Harold's suffering. Trevor, Janet, Tim and Amanda said a tearful goodbye to Harold, who then joined Natalie in heaven.
The following year, Trevor defended Ryan Lavery when he was accused of raping Kit Montgomery and shared Hayley's belief in Ryan's innocence.
Janet was one of the first to see Vanessa Bennett's true colors when she set out to destroy Erica in 1999. With Trevor and Brooke's help, Janet confronted Vanessa about the tell all book she was going to have written about Erica and sent the author packing! Sometimes it helps to be known as The Crowbar Killer after all!
Amanda wanted to help put some romance into Janet and Trevor's lives and she schemed to do just that! With help from Brooke and Axel Green, Amanda plotted to trick Janet and Trevor into going to Paris to visit Tim. Amanda's scheme was soon exposed, but Janet and Trevor decided to go to Paris anyway and Amanda was thrilled that her parents were finally going to have their honeymoon.
Janet was shocked when her old prison pal Sophie showed up on her doorstep in November 1999. Sophie spun a hard luck story for Janet and asked her for some money. Janet was fearful that her past had come back to haunt her and didn't tell Trevor that Sophie was in Pine Valley.
Sophie continued to harass Janet, even after Janet gave her $50,000 she had received from "Adam." When Sophie once again threatened Amanda, Janet took matters into her own hands and clobbered Sophie with a wooden candy cane. Thinking she had killed Sophie, Janet placed her body in a dumpster. Sophie, however, wasn't dead at all and Janet soon came to believe that she was being haunted by Sophie's "ghost."
In early 2000, Sophie broke into the Dillon house and held Janet hostage while threatening to kill Trevor and Amanda. A desperate Janet then offered to give Sophie one million dollars in exchange for leaving town for good. Sophie agreed and gave Janet 24 hours to get the money. Janet, with a lot of goading from Mirror Janet, decided to end her troubles by killing Sophie. To that end, Janet set a trap at an abandoned warehouse and lured Sophie there.
Hayley had accidentally tape recorded Janet and Sophie conversation and headed to the warehouse herself, where she was knocked unconscious by Janet's trap. Sophie found Hayley and dragged her body out of sight as Janet arrived. Sophie attacked Janet, who defended herself and killed Sophie with a crowbar. At that moment, Trevor arrived and Janet confessed everything. Trevor vowed that Janet wouldn't be sent back to prison and ordered her to go home while he destroyed the evidence against her. As Trevor was leaving the warehouse, he encountered Derek and ended up being arrested for murder. Meanwhile, a fire had broken out inside the warehouse with Hayley trapped inside, but Mateo rescued her.
Trevor confessed to killing Sophie in order to protect Janet. Trevor made a daring escape from the Pine Valley jail and told Janet that he was going on the run and they shared a heartbreaking goodbye.
Janet continued to feel the pressure in the aftermath of Sophie's death and began to think that Brooke was against her. Janet agreed to see Dr. Jaffe, but secretly canceled all her sessions.
Janet became alarmed and concerned when Amanda insisted that she had seen and spoken with Trevor. Janet feared Amanda was becoming mentally ill and Janet took matters into her own hands and smashed the mirror with a crowbar. Janet then confessed the entire truth about Sophie's murder to Jack and Derek. Janet and Amanda left Pine Valley to reunite with Trevor. Janet avoided going to prison for murder but did require mental help at a professional facility.
Trevor and Janet are happily raising their young daughter Amanda while Tim is studying abroad.
