Question/Guideline Are members here Arabian Horse Biased?
Answer
Yes!  After all, this is Arabian Horse World!  But, many of us have other breeds of horses as well, including, but not limited to, Quarter Horse, Mustang, Paints, Gated Horses, etc. and many have Arabians crossed with other breeds.  Most of us prefer the Arabian for various reasons.

Rude remarks about other breeds, however, is not something we promote.  Nor do we tolerate people who make rude remarks about our Arabian breed.  We don't appreciate those who would come in to our club and try to tell us WE are prejudiced or intolerant of other breeds.  Just don't go there!

So many of us have now and in the past other breeds of horses, it just would be rediculous to accuse our membership or management of breed bashing.  Thank each of you for being tolerant of each others horses.

Question/Guideline How do I handle disagreements with other members?
Answer
It is o.k. to disagree on subjects.  That is what makes Arabian horses so versatile.  BUT, you must remember, not everyone has to share your opinion.  And not everyone can understand the "tone" you are trying to present your statements with.  Please keep it civil or the thread will be copied and removed immediately. If all else fails, email the manager(s) of the club for assistance.

Question/Guideline How does my horse get to be Horse of the Month?
Answer
At the end of every month we have a photo contest for HOTM.  A new Theme is chosen by the management with the input of the membership.  You can add suggestions in HOTM Suggestions if you like.  Once management has selected a theme, they will post the contest as being open.  You will then be able to post your favorite photo in the  Horse of the Month album.  All the old photogrraphs are removed from that album when the new contest begins.  Please post only one photograph that goes with the theme for that month - all subsequent photos will be removed should you post more than one.  Within a few days of the closing of the new theme, the VOTE NOW FOR HOTM thread will be added to the General board.  In that thread you will be asked for your votes.  One vote per member only.  After a few days, the voting will be closed and the new cover will be posted.

Question/Guideline Negative Opinions on Trainers/Breeders
Answer
It is o.k. to have your own opinion, but to use our board as a soap box in which to state those opinions on other Breeders or Trainers is NOT o.k.  Our group has a tremendous membership and many people may personally know these Breeders or Trainers.

If you need to warn someone of a Breeder or Trainer, please email the member privately and discuss it within your email and not our message board. Please do NOT use the breeder or trainers name on the message board.

Question/Guideline Thinking About Purchasing an Arabian?
Answer
I don't think there is such a thing as a 'good' or 'bad' breed of animal. It's what suits YOU. As far as my horses go, I'm an arabian gal all the way. (not to say I don't enjoy any breed. If it's a horse, I love it.) But Arabs are definately the breed of choice for me. They are smart and loyal and loving, they bond quickly and tightly, they are responsive and they have TERRIFIC personalities. They are not horses that you can stick in a stall and go out and ride every now and then, but if you want a horse who will be your best friend, your buddy, your partner, the Arabian is definately a horse for you. The Arab is not for everyone, no breed is. The Arab does require an owner who understands them, that they are different and special. They can be high spirited and bit goofy at times, but properly trained they come down to earth quite nicely and mature, trained Arabs are often eminently handlable by children and novice riders. They are gentle and affectionate and often used in lesson programs for the disabled because of their compassion. Probably my favorite thing about the breed is that they really love their owners. They bond closely and forever with the right person and you will have a friend for life. There are some not so good arabs and some not so good arab people out there. But don't let these horses and people turn you away from the breed. There are people who just don't understand the breed, then there are those who stereotype them. They have a reputation for being high strung and unhandlable and dangerous. Well, ANY horse can be dangerous if not handled and trained properly, not just Arabs. Is the Arabian a good breed? YES! Is the Quarter horse a good breed? YES Is the Thoroughbred a good breed? YES Hanovarians, Warmbloods, all manner of ponies, the list goes on. I will say this: Arabian influence is to be found in almost every breed of light horse and some heavy horses in the world. QH's, TB's all of em have Arab in them somewhere back there. Like I said, Arabs aren't for everyone. What is the BEST breed of horse? The horse who's every look, every movement, every act, every little personality quirk YOU adore. THAT is the BEST horse! Spend some time with horses you are looking at purchasing, get to know them a little, ride them if possible, learn their feel and look. Look into their eyes and see if anything in there grabs you. Don't limit yourself to the Arabian or any other breed cuz someone else tells you it's a good breed. They are ALL GOOD breeds, it's the breed that's good for YOU that's important and NO ONE can tell you that but you.    Carol
