Fortune Telling

 With Playing Cards

The use of playing cards for fortune telling has been in existence for centuries, probably started by the Romany (Gypsies) when they arrived in Europe in the 16th Century. Although they did not bring cards with them from their homeland (presumably India), they did bring the "art" of fortune telling, and quickly adapted it to the cards that they found. Much of what we think of today as "traditional" meanings for the playing cards comes from the Romany

The Joker

The Joker is the only card remaining from the Tarot trumps. He corresponds to The Fool in the Tarot deck and has some of the same meanings in the regular deck of playing cards. His number is zero and he is truly a “wild card.” When the Joker appears in a reading, it means that something unexpected and uncontrolled can occur. If there are two Jokers with your deck of cards, and you choose to use the Joker in your readings, you need to add only one
