Note on recordings for shows:

I take my music to Mirror Image on S. main and depot Ave. They will make a cassete tape for you which has the same tune on both sides of the tape. This makes it idiot proof at showtime. The sound man won't get the wrong side - ever! The tape will have no hiss, pops or other nasty noises on it normally found on do it yourself tapes. Whatever amount of lead time you preffer. I actually walk the performance erea before the show and count how many steps it takes to get onstage. Do this to your show music so that you are on the beat when the music actually starts. I did this for a beauty contest once and I had so much extra time the camera man put me on the 6 PM news. I knew the guy, Leon Bennet KOBTV. That's how I determine it. I also knew how long the runway was in terms of well meausred steps. The other contestants were blinded by a 6 foot leco spotlight at the end of the runway. Leco being the kind of spotlight that is use for rodeos at the collesium. Yee haa! They fell down the steps at the end of that runway one after the other like lemmings. Not me! When I hit 22 steps I knew it was the end -step down . I couldn't see either ! I usually give 20 seconds lead time on the music . I pay in the neighborhood of 4 dollars for this service. They can also, for practice purposes make a loop take which plays the same tune over and over again . That is the best way to learn. I learned that from Aida al-Badawi Jamila's protege'

The Egyptians make drum heads for their RIQ from manta ray skins. I do not know how they are tanned. Personally I don't approve the kill-off of a whole species just so there can be surplus unused instruments hanging on every wall. If you kill a high -on- the- food-- chain animal then you had better make good and make music! There will come a day when these Manta rays are extinct .
