Invite Some Owls to Join the Nest! 
 
Know some Owls you'd like to have in our nest? 
  • Click on Member Tools, and invite them through the automated invitation provided. 
  • The "invite someone" feature is also available as a link on the What's New page.
  • Let the site managers know to be on the lookout for Owls you've invited so they can be approved promptly.  Use the "send message to the managers" link on the What's New page.

Add Your Biography to the Bios Page

If you'd like to share some information about yourself, please do! 

  • Click on the "Bios" section and then on "Add Bio."  
  • In the name field, type your Last Name, First Name, so that bios will appear alphabetically. 
  • Place your cursor in the text area and begin typing your biography.  
  • Be sure to click on the "Add" button at the bottom. 
  • Keep in mind that Bios are viewable to visitors, so you probably will not want to publish your address or phone number there.  
  • If you want to share personal info with our Owl Members, you may do so safely in your Member Profile.

Post a Message on the Message Board
  • First, sign in and provide your password.
  • To start a new discussion, click on "Message Board." 
  • Click on "New Discussion." 
  • Provide a subject in the subject line. 
  • Place your cursor in the text area, and type your message. 
  • Click on "Send" to post the message.
  • To respond to an existing message on the Message Board, click on the message to open it. 
  • Click "Reply." 
  • Place your cursor inside the text area, and type your reply. 
  • Click "Send" to post.
 
You can also send an e-mail which will automatically be posted on the message board. 
 
  • The e-mail must be sent from the e-mail address under which you have registered on this site.  Sending from any other address will not post.
  • Remember to keep an eye on the "replies" column when you start or reply to a discussion.  It indicates the number of responses to a message.
  • To see what others have said in reply, open the message and scroll through to the bottom to read all of the responses.

Add Some Photos
  • Click "Pictures" (left column)
To create your own album, click on "Create New Album."
    • Give your album a name. 
    • Recommendation:  Leave album setting on "Members may add/edit/delete their own photos."
    • For more information on creating albums, while you are on the Pictures page, click on the "?Help" button at the top. 
  • To add to an existing album, click on it to open.
  • Click "Add Photos." 
  • You may be asked to download the "MSN Photo Upload Control."   Just click "Download" to install this special photo-adding tool.
  • In the file directory on the left side of the page, click the folder that contains the photos you want to add.  Depending on where you've stored your photos, you may have to click several folders in the folder hierarchy to get to the one containing your photos.
  • When the photos appear in thumbnail view (small previews), check the ones you want to add to the album. 
  • Prior to adding photos to an album, you can rename, resize, or rotate them. If you want to further customize your photos, click "Edit Photos" and use the set of photo-editing tools. 
  • When you are ready to add the photos, click "Upload Now."
  • You can add or change a photo's title and description after it has been added to an album. 
  • You can change the order of the photos by clicking on "reposition."  The first photo in your album will be displayed on the cover. 
  • When inside a photo album, if you click on "?Help," you will see a new set of helpful info pertaining to that area.

Member Tools (very handy!)          

When you click on Member Tools, several (clickable) topics are revealed:

View the Member List

  • Displayed are several pages listing all of our members.  
  • To see a specific profile, click on the member's Nickname.
  • Once inside a member's profile, if you want to e-mail him/her, click on the member's e-mail address.  If no e-mail address is listed, the member did not wish to share it.

View Your Member Profile

  • Displayed are your Nickname, e-mail address and info which you have provided about yourself. 
  • To edit, click "edit my profile." 
  • If you change your nickname, an e-mail to the site managers will be appreciated.  
  • Your nickname should have no spaces, hyphens, quotation marks, or special characters of any kind.  
  • If you want to share info about yourself, type in the box provided.  This area is only viewable by members, and then, only if you also check the box allowing members to see your profile.
  • If you edit, be sure to click "save these settings."

Check Your E-mail Settings

  • Displayed is your e-mail address where you will receive mail from this website. 
  • If you want your e-mail address to appear on your Member Profile, check the box next to "Allow other community members to see my e-mail address."  Clear the box if you do not want to share it.
  • Choose how you want to receive messages board postings.  There are 3 choices: 

-On the Web -- which means not in your email.  

-Daily Digest -- You'll receive one daily e-mail message containing the day's message board postings. 

-Inbox -- Each message posted on the message board will be immediately and individually forwarded to your e-mail.  

  • Choose how often you want to receive "Group Reports." 
  • "Notifications" are sent when you request them from certain areas.  For instance, you can ask to be notified when additions are made to your photo album.  Watch for the "Notify Me" button in various areas, and request notifications, as desired.
  • Choose to receive your e-mail in plain text or HTML.
  • Lock in your choices by clicking "Save Changes."

View the Group Settings -- Self-explanatory

Recommend This Group -- Easy way to invite other Owls to join.

Send a Message to the Group

  • Provide a subject, type your message and click send.
  • Your message will be automatically posted on the Message Board and delivered via e-mail to members who have selected that option.

Send E-mail to the Managers -- Messages sent from this area are not posted on the message board; they are delivered via e-mail, only to the managers.
