Our birth center is opening in a few weeks, and I want to get several copies for it--some for the library and some to sell. I'd sure like your book to be a replacement for the dreaded (and dreadful) "What to Expect..." Love it... your book is important stuff. There is a change coming--I can feel it. Your book is the kind that will lift and carry that change. I love it (have I mentioned that?) - K.K., midwife, MI Sheila's quick tips for an easier delivery Let's suppose you're already in labour and don't have time to read the whole book but need to know - in 500 words or less - how to make this birth easier. Here are some quick tips to help you. - Don't be afraid. If you are a woman, you are designed for giving birth. It's not an illness! (Chapter 1 will the confidence you need.)
- Stay out of bed and on your feet. (Chapter 2 gives you a variety of reasons why, both from a physiological and an emotional perspective.)
- Avoid excessive medical "help." The less doctors interfere, the better, for both you and your child. (Chapter 8 & 10 explain why.)
- If you feel better (relaxed) at home and are in good health, give birth there. It's perfectly safe (Chapter 9 includes the surprising research that supports this fact) and generally less painful in your own environment. (Chapter 9 & 11 will give you more details.)
- Kissing and smooching with your mate helps make labour easier. (Chapter10 & 11 describe how and are full of surprises.)
New: Here's yet another reason to avoid intervention: a 115% increase in ASTHMA is related to forceps delivery! (This link will take you to another website. Click the "back" button to return here.) I just thought you might like to know... My sister lent me your book to read during my pregnancy (fourth and final!) Anyway, the smile I am sending to you today is that, with my placenta brain, I was able to read your book TWICE through and completely enjoy it anew BOTH times! Kudos on such a wonderful book... -Krista P., B.C. It is just wonderful. - M.Reid, Radio Host of CJAM's Subversive Parenting programme, Windsor/Detroit you deserve so many thank yous…I have just finished reading ... and words can’t explain how I feel right now. I want to cry, laugh, jump for joy. It made me feel more of a woman. I can’t explain why. Right now I want another book, my copy is too precious to lend out… I couldn’t give myself the reason to spend 25 dollars. Now it makes so much sense. Valuable information can have no price. I am going to show my husband a few things in the book, mostly about the X-files. No one ever told me child birth was supposed to be that way. Nobody told me my husband is suppose to kiss me or even touch me while in labour. Thank you - Lisa K, BC YOU ROCK! Your book got here Saturday afternoon, and I haven't been able to put it down! I laughed, I cried...it's absolutely one of the best "birth books" I've ever read. - Michelle H. in MD Bless you for the work you have done with your book. It is great. - SueW., midwife
