Here's what people are saying about

Birthing the Easy Way :

The relaxed, conversational and wonderfully humorous tone of this book makes it a winner right off the bat. [T]his extraordinary book... brims with facts, insights, support and logic. She cheerleads, chides, teases, teaches, comforts and tells the truth. While she's at it, she exposes the untruths and dangers of status quo obstetrics in a matter-of-fact way that does not alienate her readers. - Midwifery Today Magazine

I thoroughly agree with everything you say, and wish we could make it mandatory for obstetricians to read it, and to sit for an examination on its contents. I feel that your book should be professionally printed, bound, and published, and advertised world-wide. You could state at the bottom of the front cover "Half-price for any Obstetrician who guarantees in writing that he will read it" - Dr. John S, Australia (retired physician who attended homebirths)

Absolutely fantastic! Last night while nursing my almost 3-week-old I read your whole book -front to back!!  You are a riot! I loved your honesty and your crazy sense of humor! I wish  I could have every silly doctor, friend, nosy neighbour and ignorant (?!) relative read it!!   Thanks for giving me a "giggling - crying - and then giggling" joy ride to sleep last night. -Laurie S., ON

I loved your frank, no-nonsense, non-authoritarian & immensely funny style of writing! So many times I put the book down giggling or outright laughing and pondered the wisdom of your words. Please write some more! - Louise M., ON

"I re-re-re read your book last week.. Each time I learn more. Simply marvelous!" - Marypascal B., PQ

"I would never have known or considered homebirth if it had not been for you. You're my homebirth angel!!!!!!!!" - Jennifer S., AL (Jennifer had an "HBAC" - Home Birth After Cesarean!)

{Regarding an excerpt from Chapter 11} "lovely words... may I quote you?" - Robbie Davis Floyd, author of Birth as a Rite of Passage

"It's nice to read my own views put into words much more eloquently than I ever could!" - Jackie B.,  student midwife, UK

"I am EXTREMELY IMPRESSED! Sheila, your writing style is fabulous - fun to read, flows beautifully, just incredible. And the information you have is great. This book NEEDS to be published! ...I can't tell you how excited I am to read this and LOVE it. We have to find a way to get this into the hands of more readers!" - Teresa Pitman, co-author of Pregnancy & Birth : The Best Evidence,   Today's Parent columnist, co-author of Dr. Jack Newman's Guide to Breastfeeding.

"Got the book in the mail yesterday and was a very bad wife and mother for the rest of the day as I sat on the couch and devoured it while the dirty dishes and dustbunnies had undisturbed peak breeding time. It was WONDERFUL!" - Aliss T, Toronto

"Oh, Sheila, you've *got* to get your book published! I devoured it the afternoon and evening the day it arrived. I cried at times... and I almost pissed myself laughing so hard too... Its *so*comprehensive, how you back *everything* up. It's also easy to read, written in plain layman's terms.  Your thoughts/insights experience with/on the sexual nature of the birthing process are definitely not mainstream... To some degree though, women have to be taken by the shoulders and shaken to wake them up! I think that that's what you'll do to people who read your book" - Leslie A., Ottawa

"You manage to convey a great deal of information with an almost conversational tone. In particular, your analogies work very well. ...you have some wonderful information presented in a very readable and really rather friendly format. It feels a bit like you have come by for tea and a discussion of sex and babies." - Jennifer B., MA

I wanted to thank you so very much for writing a fantastic heartwarming book.  I am now just over 7 months pregnant, and have devoured every possible book on VBAC's, and yours was certainly refreshing and from the heart.....I needed that.  -Liz C., ON

"It's worth twice what you charge for it. ... I've enclosed a litte extra for you so you can keep doing this." - MB, PQ

My daughter is due to give birth within the next four weeks.  I am sending you a check today to get the book and booklet.  You are so right in your website.  -Judy R., WA

"Birthing the Easy Way Should be mandatory reading for every woman considering pregnancy and for every woman who wishes to expand her experience of being a woman. Women need to read the writings from a woman who has experienced the hardships and pleasures of birthing rather than heed the advice of male doctors who have studied theories and insist on instructing women how to give birth." - Lynn Griesemer, SC, author of Unassisted Homebirth - An Act of Love

"I wanted to encourage you, and let you know that you have changed a life.  I passed your book along to a friend from church who's expecting June 25th, and I'm going to be her doula.    Well, she has decided on a homebirth after reading your book and realizing, hey! this birth thing is normal!  and she has really come to terms with some of the issues and fears that she has allowed to take root in her life.  The change in her has been amazing!  She's no longer afraid, and looking ahead to the birth with dread.  She has actually changed her posture... when talking about birth, she now stands up straighter, and she is so obviously feeling empowered.
"So let me say thank you thank you thank you! "- Joanne C., Doula, ON

"Hilarious!" - Marilyn A. Moran, author of  Birth and the Dialogue of Love

Loved, loved, loved your book! Thanks for a really great read! - Heather B., CA (home-born daughter of a midwife)

that story at the end of your book...the one that sounds like the woman is about to lose her virginity was like "wow" to me...i wanna share that with [my husband] ...maybe then his eyes will be opened up a bit to the whole sexual part of it for me ... awesome!!!!  loved it...it was a great way to end the book - M.M., OK

"Just finished reading your book, and I must say it was FABULOUS, my favourite chapter was "Everything I needed to know about birthing I learned from breastfeeding." This book is so good, because it has such a natural progression from hospital to home birth... without being preachy and radical.... I can hardly wait to read it again, only this time I am going to highlight the parts that ring so true in my heart..." Renee H, ON

I love it! I laughed and I cried through it and my husband {who hates to read} actually read it too! - Stephanie C. , TX

It is wonderful. I was VERY impressed with the creative way you packaged it.  I've done some booklets and your solutions were ingenious! Our birth center is opening in a few weeks, and I want to get several copies for it--some for the library and some to sell.I'd sure like your book to be a replacement for the dreaded (and dreadful) "What to Expect..."  Love it... your book is important stuff.  There is a change coming--I can feel it.  Your book is the kind that will lift and carry that change. I love it (have I mentioned that?)                 - K.K., midwife, MI

YOU ROCK!
Your book got here Saturday afternoon, and I haven't been able to put it down!
I laughed, I cried...it's absolutely one of the best "birth books" I've ever read.  - Michelle H. in MD

I just thought you might like to know... My sister  lent me your book to read during my pregnancy (fourth and final!) Anyway, the smile I am sending to you today is that, with my placenta brain, I was able to read your book TWICE through and completely enjoy it anew BOTH times!

Kudos on such a wonderful book... -Krista P., B.C.

It is just wonderful. - M.Reid, Radio Host of CJAM's Subversive Parenting programme, Windsor/Detroit

you deserve so many thank yous…I have just finished reading ... and words can’t explain how I feel right now. I want to cry, laugh, jump for joy. It made me feel more of a woman. I can’t explain why. Right now I want another book, my copy is too precious to lend out… I couldn’t give myself the reason to spend 25 dollars. Now it makes so much sense. Valuable information can have no price. I am going to show my husband a few things in the book, mostly about the X-files. No one ever told me child birth was supposed to be that way. Nobody told me my husband is suppose to kiss me or even touch me while in labour. Thank you - Lisa K, BC

your book helped me so much. It lived in my bathroom
for months, & took a voyage to my Mom's & back. I only
wish I had had it here to re-read at the very end when
I was really needing some encouragement in the wee
hours. -Jessa F, MO

love it!! Thank you so much for taking the time to write down what so many of us feel!! Sara R

I have been enjoying it immensely!  A homeschooling mother of seven (expecting number 8) I don't have a lot of time for reading, but I've been squeezing in time for your book whenever and wherever I can.  It is so very readable and so full of practical, commonsense advise.  This is one book I'm going to be recommending to everyone! -Lilah

"The midwife considers the miracle of birth as normal and leaves it alone unless there's trouble. The doctor normally considers birth as trouble. If he leaves it alone it's a miracle."
I just love this Sheila! Would you mind if I use it as one of my quotes? With your name of course! Jackie, MI

Just a quick thank you so much for your book:)!I just got it and am only at chapter 2 but am having a hard time putting it down - it is very well written and I am loving it! I really appreciate you sending the book before receiving payment so I would have it before my upcoming birth:)!Thanks again and all the best to you and yours this New Year's! -Kim F, BC

I am very excited about telling others about your book and perhaps purchasing one for my local library. I will highly recommend it to all mothers!  I wish you well and hope to see your book become a classic on most women's bookshelves as it will on mine.
Thanks again, Sheila, it was a wonderful read! - Heather, BC Canada
