more fave films ...  Nicholas and Alexandra A movie based upon a true happening almost always engages me. Much more so if it were something with historical significance, such as this film.  North and South And this, too.( a mini series )  Falling In Love It made me fall in love with love all over again.  Tortilla Soup Just comfortably warm and funny ... it's the nuances of it ( any family-oriented movie, for that matter ) and the naturalness they're played out -that really touch my heartstrings.  Death of a Salesman Such a compelling take on the absurdities of life, this movie really touched me to the point of ... what else? Tears! One other film that affected me in the same way was The Assassination of Richard Nixon- ( hey, don't be misled by the title!)  Schindler's List In every horrible regime, there are a few sublime and valorous men who will secretly try to make amends for the atrocities committed by their own government. Oskar Schindler was one such man. And the film is superb!  A Streetcar Named Desire This is so heart-rending ... Marlon Brando as the rough-hewn Stanley Kowalski, is truly one-of-a-kind, a lot of actors emulating him notwithstanding. Of course, there's my favorite Vivien Leigh as Blanche Dubois providing the perfect foil, with her pathetic evanescent Old Southern propriety. Their encounters fire up the screen as nothing else can. GANDHI : " Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in the flesh and blood walked upon this earth." Albert Einstein Gandhi wrote : " When I despair, I remember that all through history, the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of this. Always. "
