Dee Noonkester - Born October 15th,1912.
The first race that Dee attended was the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte.(That's where the Buckshot picture came from.)
Dee's Story
as told by his Daughter-in-law aka Bucker8500
He calls himself the oldest living Buckshot Jones fan club member ( I actually think he is). He first met Buckshot many years ago in Milwaukee while Buck was in the Cheez-its car. They shook hands behind the hauler and ever since then, he has told complete strangers that he and Buck are personal friends. We have taken him to Buck's old race shop where he sat at Buck's desk with his feet up on the desk. Buck has since autographed that picture for him. (Thank you again for that Vivian).
I have to share just one story about the two of them. At a race after they met, my brother found and bought a framed picture of Buckshot after winning the Milwaukee race. We told the old man (we call him that with nothing but respect) that Buck had sent him that picture (just a little white lie). He said "thats because we met in Milwaukee". Later, I gave that picture to Vivian to have Buck sign. The next time he saw Buckshot (Bristol), he handed Buck a $5.00 bill. Buck asked him what it was for and he answered it was to pay the postage for Vivian mailing his picture back. Without skipping a beat, Buck handed his sharpie to the old man and asked HIM to autograph that $5.00 for him. Needless to say, he will never forget it.
His last attended race was at the Bristol spring race 2001 when the flood came. He had camara crews from local news do an interview with him as the oldest race fan to camp at Bristol.
He is unable to attend races anymore because of doctor's orders. Dee still cheers Buckshot on wherever he is.
God Bless you Dee.

I would like to let everyone know that my father-in-law,
Fred Noonkester, who is on the website as the oldest living Buckshot fan passed away on December 21st. He was 97. I tried to post a message on the site but wasn't able to figure it out. I was wondering if you could post something so Vivian and Buck will know. He talked about those two right up to the end. He truly loved Buckshot and one of my great regrets is that he won't be able to watch this race. Buck can race a little easier because he has an angel up there looking out for him.
Thanks so much
Marianne
