| What is Panda ActiveScan?
Panda ActiveScan is Panda Software's online antivirus, that works directly over the Internet. With a simple click from your browser you can scan all your files and e-mail for viruses.
Panda ActiveScan detects and eliminates more than 90.000 viruses, including trojans, worms, etc. It is updated at least once a day to ensure that includes the information necessary for detecting even the latest viruses.
With this tool, Panda Software offers you the ideal complement to the antivirus installed in your computer. Through your Internet connection you have access to a powerful antivirus, that is constantly up-to-date and simple to use.
Minimum requirements
The minimum requirements for using Panda ActiveScan are:
Operating system: Windows XP/2000 Pro/NT/Me/98/95
RAM: 32 MB for Windows Me/98/95 and 64 MB for Windows XP/2000 Pro/NT
Browser: Internet Explorer 5.0 or later version
E-mail programs supported: Outlook, Exchange and Outlook Express
How to use Panda ActiveScan
Panda ActiveScan is very simple to use. You just need to be connected to the Internet at the beginning and end of the process. Follow these steps to start:
1.On the opening page click, Next.
2.Then, enter your e-mail address. If you keep the box Subscribe to Oxygen3 checked, you'll receive a daily IT security e-bulletin with information on latest virus threats, important news on program updates ...
3.In the Geographical location section, lists are displayed from which you should select your country and region. Panda Software uses geographical information to profile viruses according to countries and regions and build more localized antivirus solutions.
4.To begin downloading, click on Start. The components that make up Panda ActiveScan will be downloaded.
5.Once the download is complete, the first window will appear.
6.In the main window there are two sections. In the right-hand section you can enable or disable scan options. In the left-hand section you can choose items to scan and start the process.
From the main window (top-right) you also have access to the Panda ActiveScan Help section and to the FAQs.
Scan options
On the right-hand side of the main Panda ActiveScan window there are some boxes with a number of scan configuration options. Before starting the scan you can enable or disable any of these options:
- Disinfect automatically. If this box is checked, the antivirus will disinfect any virus it detects during the scan. If it is not checked, the antivirus will only inform of the presence of a virus, but will not take any action.
- Scan compressed files. Compressed files and their content will be scanned if this box is checked.
- Scan e-mail files. The most common means of virus transmission is via e-mail. Keep this box enabled if you want to scan the contents of your e-mail.
- Detect unknown viruses (heuristic). Every day new viruses appear. If you notice anything that makes you suspect that a virus might be at large, choose the heuristic scan option.
- Detect spyware. Detects any spyware that could be installed on your computer.
Items to scan
Once the scan options are set, you can select the item(s) to be scanned. Choose from the following items:
- All My Computer Checks all files, e-mail messages and other areas of your computer.
- Hard disks. It will only scan files that are on your computer's hard disks. E-mail, floppy disks, CD-ROM, or DVD, for example, will not be scanned.
- Floppy disk. It will scan whatever disk is in the floppy disk drive.
- My Documents. To scan the My Documents folder and its content.
- E-mail. To scan all e-mail messages and files in Outlook, Outlook Express and Exchange.
- Others.... This is the ideal option for scanning certain directories in your system, as it allows you to choose any folder you want.
Scan report While the scan is in progress, Panda ActiveScan displays a small summary with information on scanned viruses, number of infected files, suspicious files and disinfected viruses.
Once the scan is finished, if Panda ActiveScan has detected a virus, besides the summary above you can also consult a more detailed report. To do this, click the See Report button while the computer is connected to the Internet.
The scan report displays the following information:
- Incident, name of viruses or threat detected.
- Scan, directory or place in which the incident took place.
- Status of the incident.
After viewing the report, you are given the following options: Save report, Scan again, or send a suspicious file to Panda Software's Virus Laboratory. To scan your PC: Right click with your mouse below and select 'open link in new window' |
