The Russian Blue has a triangular head. Ears are big, wide at the base and rounded at the top. They have an elegant and long body with fine bones. Legs are long but the feet are rather small. Their tail is long. The Russian Blue has a double short coat and feels silky. The eyes are deep bright green. As his name says, the colour of the coat is blue.
Long version:
HEAD:
Short, wedge-shaped, whith a flat skull.
Forehead and nose straight, at the nose onset it forms a faintly corner.
Very strong pronounced whisker cushion. Solid chin.
EARS:
Big and pointed, wide open at the base, placed perpendicular on the head.
The skin of the ears is thin and tranparent, the inside of the ears is economically covered with hair.
EYES:
Wide apart from each other, they have the form of an almond and are big.
The wide placing of the eyes gives the face a broad appearance.
Eye color: vivid green
BUILD:
Long, slim and elegant.
Generally, the animal has fine bones and a long body.
The muscles are solid and clearly present.
TAIL:
Starts quite thick at the base, ends in a point and is fairly long.
PAWS AND FEET:
The paws have relatively fine bones and are pretty long.
Small, oval feet (rounded in the USA).
The hind legs are a little bit longer then the forelegs.
FUR:
Short, dense, very fine, resilient, silky and soft, outstanding like a seal skin.
The fur is very different as against every other race, namely : "double" and has a very clear silver shine.
The texture and the appearance of the fur are the real characteristics of Russian Blue cats.
Due to this outstanding fur, it's very important that it is not being smoothed.
The fur of a top quality Russian Blue should spring back irrespective of the direction that it's been brushed.
This race can only be paired mutual to avoid any harm to the specific type and structure of the fur.
FUR COLOR:
Preferably pure, even middle blue with a silver touch.
Adult animals may not show any stripes or shadows.
Kittens show frequently fuzzy tabby drawings in the fur but these should disappear when the fur of the young cat molts.
CHARACTER:
Serene and independant cats who are inconspicuous but demonstrative.
Quick on the uptake, acrobatic and creative.
The most striking characteristic of the Russian Blue cat is his taciturnly sweetness.
To strangers, he is very reserved. He is shy but an excellent companion, who gets very attached to his owner.
He is perfectly happy in a flat and sometimes, he gives the impression that he prefers to stay inside.
To other cats, he maintains a certain distance, to congeners however, they are very affectionate.
The Russian Blue is a cat for specialists:
shy to strangers but for their owners, these are fantastic sweet cats that like to sit on your lap and to give you a lot of cuddles.
