May 7, 2007 - Seaboard #2667 was still stationed near the yard office surrounded by other CSX GP38-2s and RCPHG4 drones. Interesting to note on the Ice Dock were a pair of Wheeling & Lake Erie units, high hood GP35 #200 in the Ohio Bicentennial scheme, and SD40 #3046 in the standard W&LE orange and black. A number of new CSX ES44DCs were also in the yard, along with a few SD50s and an HLCX and FURX rental.
May 6, 2007 - A couple interesting locomotives were spotted around the yard today. First of all Seaboard System #2667, now the LAST locomotive in SBD colors, has been at Rougemere since the last week of April. It was spotted today with a drone near the yard office. A number of drone are being stored along Wyoming Ave, some out of service at this time. Lots of bigger CSX power was on the Ice Dock track, including an SD40-2, two C44-9Ws, and some geeps. GP40-2 #6072 was also sighted. On the Ford side, Conrail painted B40-8 #5975 was with a CSX SD50 on the point of a Coke Express train.
October 21, 2006 - Both Chessie drones, #9121 and #9122, are still at Rougemere on the Eagle St. Overpass.
September 29, 2006 - Lots of CSX power around the yard today. First to report is that Chessie System RCPHE4s #9121 and #9122 were on the Eagle St. Bridge, as were ES44DC #5248 with CW44AC #93 and the SD50 #8635/CW40-8 #7721 pair. CSX CW40-8 #7768 was with CW44-9 #9014 on the point of a WB autoracks train. HLCX SD40-2s #6218 and #6501 were with a CSX drone on the front of a WB mixed freight. Along Wyoming Ave were RCPHG4 #9134, CSX GP38-2 #2621, and UP SD70M #4064. The CSX triplet GP38-2 #2689 (in scheme 3 modified with Family Lines colors showing through), GP38-2 #2741, and RCPHG6 #9303. At the Yard Office, one could find CSX SD60 #8711 with CW40-8 #7738, RCPHG4 drones #9242, #9244, and #9156, along with GP38-2 #2775. Finally, GP38-2 #2645 was switching the hill with RCPHG4 #9248.
August 17, 2006 - Much interesting power around the yard today! SEABOARD SYSTEM GP38-2 #2667 was switching on the hill at the south end of the yard with Scheme 6 B30-7 #5517. In the yard a train had just arrived with Scheme 7 CW40-8 #7314 (ex CR), Scheme 5 SD40-2 #8321, and Scheme 3 modified GP38-2 #2689, with yellow noses and Family Lines colors showing through. Scheme 3 modified GP38-2 #2506 was on the Ice Dock track with some drones, while the sequential pair of GP38-2s #2614 and #2615 were working near the carshop.
July 31, 2006 - Plenty of CSX power to go around, so here is the list! Of special interest were three new ES44DCs: 5320, 5236 and 5327, all in shining scheme 7 paint. GP40-2 #6131 represented the old cat on the Ice Dock track, but GP38-2 2675, RCPHG6 9303 and RCPHG4 9134, all in scheme 6. Continuing with Scheme 6 power includes C40-8 #7556, RCPHG4's 9135 9161, and 9244, and GP38-2 #2615. FURX 3042, an SD40-2, rounded out the locomotives in the yard.
June 3, 2006 - A nice catch was C40-8 #7587, one of three remaining C40-8s in the original scheme 4 Stealth colors (with modified ends), along with CSX CW40-8 #7806 on the Ice Dock track today. Also in the yard was GP38-2 #2506, remaining in scheme 3 modified. It was nice to see GP38-2s #2700 and #2794 working together at the south end of the yard, both in clean scheme 7 paint! Also to note, all the drones except RCPHG6 #9303 have left the yard over the last few weeks, including both Chessies. One sled remains in service, and a few are coupled together out of service at the north end.
April 16, 2006 - A wide mix of all CSX (and predecessor) power was at the Rouge today, with plenty of interesting locomotives to see. Most interesting of course were the two Chessies which currently call Rougemere home, former C&O #9120, and former B&O #9122, both RCPHE4 drones. 9122 was on the Ice Dock track, teamed up with Scheme 3 modified GP38-2 #2506, former Conrail GP38-2 #2766 (scheme 6) and recently repainted GP38-2 #2635 in scheme 7 colors. Also on the Ice Dock track was RCPHG4 #9134. Along Wyoming Ave and accompanying Chessie #9120 were a number of other GE drones: #9135 and #9242 both RCPHG4s, and #9303, an RCPHG6. Scheme 7 switcher #1170, an MP15AC, was teamed up with RCPHG4 #9248 and would later be switching the south end. Conrail painted CW40-8 #7316 and former CR SD60 #8719 in scheme 6 were on the point of a train ready to head west. Meanwhile, a pair of new scheme 7 ES44DCs, #5271 and #5273, had just brought an auto rack train in from Plymouth and beyond, and were near the yard office. Also ready to head a train out the west end were SD40-2s #8837 (former Conrail in scheme 7 paint), and #8478 in CSX scheme 6. Finally, yesterday CSX GP40-2 #6139 was sighted near the Eagle Overpass in scheme 7 colors. This amounts to 2 Chessies, and 6 total scheme 7 units, plus a scheme 3 modified and the remainder "bright future" locomotives.
April 2, 2006 - CHESSIE SYSTEM RCPHE4 #9122, based for the past few years along the east coast in Delaware and Pennsylvania, arrived at Rougemere Yard in the past few days and is now based here along with CHESSIE RCPHE4 #9120 for R/C switching. It's great to see both Chessies on home rails. Chessie #9121 is based near Toledo.
February 10, 2006 - Lots of trains coming and going from Rougemere, but I missed a lot of the power. CSX GP40-2 #6132 was switching cars at the south end and then working the Delray Scrap Yard on Dearborn Ave and then went over to the Garden Yard. GP38-2 #2635 was in fresh scheme 7 next to the Yard office. Only three Drones around the yard, #9303, #9161 and #9134. Three purple and blue HLCX engines were together on the yard, two SD40-2s splitting an SD40-2 in a SD45 body. A mixed freight was coming into the yard around 1:30PM with a CSX SD40-2 and CSX SD50 on the front, and a Coke Express train with CSX and rental power arrived around 10AM. Additionally, CP Rail 8738, a brand new ES44DC, was with a CEFX AC4400 near the CP building. Seems like there were some extra CP trains in the yard...maybe they're finally fed up with the NS?
January 11, 2006 - Early morning update from Editor Mike here, this morning it was a pleasure to see Chessie drone #9120, the former C&O unit, working at Rougemere with GP38-2 #2610 still in the old scheme 3 modified livery.
December 24, 2005 - Rougemere remained busy the day before Christmas. Photos were finally captured of GP15T #1501 (C&O reporting marks), along with ex Conrail Scheme 7 GP38-2 #2801. C40-8 #7530 and SD60I #8785, both in scheme 6, hauled in a lengthy loaded Coke Express train. A Union Pacific C44-9W was switching the north end, while CSX GP38-2 #2710 (in fading scheme 6) and a sled were switching the south end in RC mode. GP38-2 #2732 was also hooked to a sled near the Yard Office. On the Ice Dock, A CSX C44-9W was stationed along with other power. The unused drone and sled combo along Wyoming Ave. remains unchanged from previous days, and was joined by a Union Pacific unit in the 7100 series. A CSX GP38-2 was also switching in the Garden Yard on the Boat Yard line, along with an NS GP38-2 high hood.
December 20, 2005 - While the past report was fairly dull from two days past, today's was far more interesting! A mixed freight from Plymouth direction led by CSX SD40-2 #8199 and two SD40-2 rentals was waiting for clearence into the yard. The GP38-2 Scheme 7 pair from below was working Coke Hoppers on the Ford side of the yard. SD70AC #4757and AC66CW #698 were near the yard office with an eastbound train. On the Ice Dock track, CSX GP38-2 #2710 in rusting scheme 6 was joined by SEABOARD SYSTEM GP38-2 #2667, and another CSX GP38-2. An unusual surprise was CSX GP15T #1501 in Scheme 2 modified with C&O Reporting Marks near the Tunnel Tower with a short Yard job bound for Delray and beyond. Also near the Tunnel Tower was an EB loaded Coke train led by a CEFX SD45 and GCFX SD40-2. CP Rail train 137 was entering the yard from Delray when a knuckle broke and they tied up the interlocking for 45 minutes. They had a trio of SD40-2s. Also in action were the Rouge Steel coke crew and Delray Connecting SW #001.
December 18, 2005 - Not much to see around Rougemere today. Lone GP38-2 #2630 in fading scheme 6 was idle on the Eagle St. bridge. Former Conrail GP38-2s #2770 and #2801 made for a nice scheme 7 pair at the Ice Dock. Sister #2732 was switching the south end with an RCPHG4 drone. Two other RCPHG$s and RCPHG6 #9303 were with four unused "sleds" along Wyoming Ave. A CP Rail AC44CW at the Ice Dock and a pair of CP SD40-2s at the CP Terminal rounded out the "excitement" for the day.
November 22, 2005 - Seaboard System GP38-2 #2667, the last unmodified SBD unit on the roster, was seen working out of Rougemere Yard today on the yard job which services Delray, the Detroit Produce Terminal, the Boat Yard, and other industries along the old Union Belt.
October 31, 2005 - Chessie has paid a surprise Halloween visit to Rougemere Yard by arriving in the form of RCPHE4 drone #9120 on October 29. This former GP40 remains in Yard R/C service through at least the 31st of October. Also at Rougemere is RCPHG4 #9151, one of two such units where have already received the scheme 7 CSX colors.
September 28, 2005 - CSX GP38-2 #2682, in scheme 3 modified paint, has recently been working at Rougemere and Oak Yard. Its fading paint colors show the eerie outlines of its former paint scheme, Family Lines System. Also, SD40 #4607, one of only ten left on the roster, arrived on Q287 from Walbridge yesterday, and stayed until Q399 for Toledo departed today.
September 10, 2005 - Conrail transfer caboose #18322 was parked with a train along Wyoming Ave. Farther down the yard, CSX RCPHG4 #9161, Conrail GP40-2 #4422, CSX GP38-2 #2697 and another drone were switching th south end. At the Eagle overpass, drones #9134 and #9135 were hooked together. No other power in the yard during this late morning visit, but much high horsepower was visible during the early morning hours of Sept. 11th, including SD40-2s, SD50s, and AC power.
