Communicating the Gospel of Christ

10: Moses said to the LORD, "O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue."

11 The LORD said to him, "Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD? 12 Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say. Exodus 4:10-12 NIV

In the Topic of communication as a Christian leader in society, one might ask do I have to be a good speaker and know many big words to be successful. Will I get the point across if I have a handicap in my speaking or if I stutter or fumble a lot when I speak? Is my do I really have a message everyone would want to hear? Is God still able to help man speak today?

Moses is a good example of the reason why the message of the gospel is not doing what is did in the day of the Apostles of Jesus. He tried all the excuses he could to prove that he was not the one that God was looking for. For Moses the thought of going back to pharaoh’s house after all that occurred back when he was there, placed fear into Moses’ heart. Who would believe that the prince of Egypt who under the power and the wisdom of God built Egypt, and grew up in the house of pharaoh could be so shy? (Slow of speech and tongue meant that he did not talk much he was shy.) It did not mean that Moses stuttered) I believe he was afraid and gripped with guilt and condemnation from the last thing he did before he fled to the dessert. In addition, he had not yet experienced God’s power nor did he know what God was capable of doing.

By what I learn in the bible God is able to do all and exceedingly above anything, we could ask or dream in, yet I am still afraid to speak publicly because of my past low self-esteem. Moses had many accomplishments to look back on yet he was still nervous to go to pharaoh and relay Gods message. I find it rather easy to read the bible and to hear the bible but doing what it says is the hold back for many, because it demands action from us.

God tells Moses in verse eleven" Who made man’s mouth is it not I" God takes away the obstacle and gets rid of all the excuses and commands him again to go. See success in not in the reasoning of man, it lies in the faith of man. God was ready willing and able to work through Moses no matter what his past was. However, faith without works is dead faith so we have to pray for the Lord to increase our faith and boldness, just go rushing in like a bull at a red shawl and just do it.

When god said who makes man see or blind or deaf or mute he was saying, "did I or did I not make you?" God reassures Moses and he reassures any leader or Christian today that he is able to help is to speak when we give witness to his gospel.

This passage is an encouragement to anyone who is shy or afraid to communicate to people, or to group. I think it is a matter of the mind and not a matter of the tongue. Have you ever noticed how sometimes we get with a friend and just ramble on for hours without even thinking about what we are saying? This alone is proof that the resources are there when we need them, but this is not a matter of knowledge or even having a degree in speech, it is a matter of the mind and heart.
