Just because a company is says a product is 'safe' or non toxic .... does not mean that is the case.

Simple Green is 6% 2-butoxyethanol

2-butoxyethanol and Diethylene glycol monobutyl ether are nothing to play around with.

Audrey got ahold of me for her husband's exposure to misting Simple Green for 45 minutes at work. He must have died, because she was very interested & now no reply.

You probably know that the company claims Simple Green is non toxic. They use Dow Chemical's trade name for 2-butoxyethanol: Butyl Cellosolve. They base their claim on a diluted test of the the product (about a capful in a half gallon of water) and THEREFORE state because it is too diluted, it is not toxic. The gallon size container offers a full strength choice of use ... and no change in warnings. Personally I think that is negligent failure to warn.

*From  WHO  (via Toxins Awareness Group):   paint solvents are carcinogenic, painters having a 40% higher chance of  lung cancer and 20% higher of stomach, bladder, larynx, etc cancers,  while their children are at increased risk of leukaemia and brain tumours Source

The chemical that is commonly used in cleaning products for decades,
is the same chemical that should be suspect
  • for the cause of 'gulf war syndrome'
  • primary cause of
    Diabetes?
  • cause of tumors (especially brain tumors)
  • leuklemias, NHL, various lymphomas
  • birth defects
  • Memory loss
  • CFIDS (Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome) ... CFS, FM,

How does a body 'complain' about too much of some kind of chemical exposure?  *
For 2-butoxyethanol:  Cough, headache, loosening of the sinuses (runny nose), diarrhea, flu-like symptoms
I'm not familiar with the chemicals mentioned in
   odoBan
But when an EPA registration number is needed, it is usually a clue that there is something more harmful than the MSDS would share
I'm looking into IMUS cleaners, but still wonder about the solvent in it Imus' cleaners
well there's your answer the ingredients are listed with the New Jersey Secret Registry.
So then,  they do NOT disclose all ingredients as they advertise

Would be best not to spray any cleaning products around children & vapors in eyes can be a serious exposure to the harmful components ... and air out the rooms after cleaning ... so residue is gone when children arrive the next day
Workers who clean should use air-tight goggles & chemically resistant gloves

Thank you for your interest in our children's health
Remember the rain last week? ... I added points of interest on this site, too

PS many who worked on the Exxon Valdez oil spill were over exposed to this chemical
If we knew what happened to them, they would look like the 'gulf war syndrome vets'
I also believe there is a strong second hand solvent exposure to 2-butoxyethanol
and that many in our town would be alive & living in health today, had it not been for coming into contact with others who were strongly exposed in 1989.  Possibly even Lee Olkjer, Helen Wade, Bob Keller ... many, many people
What should the military list of disability approval be? ... PRESUMPTIVE
Everything that is on the 'list' for the Vietnam vets ... & more approvals for them, too.  It was 'the other chemical in the mix that caused most of their health issues

For Audrey's husband's bouts of paralysis ... For the muscle weakness others often share on ... Could it be CIDP? In the advance or acute stage it is what Pres FDR had (goes by another name). He didn't have polio, but the acute (instead of chronic) version of CIDP

Why I think Pres FDR was exposed to bomb fumes of WWI when he was Assist Sect of the Navy & got as close to the front lines as they would let him. About that time the male tanks were brought into the war ... then in 1918 the 'Spanish flu" that killed millions. General Dynamics wants to test these old things in a new package & shoot them off beyond our town in Jan/Feb of 07. Scares me a lot

Thankfully RCAC has taken a position against using this kind of chemical for dispersants in Prince William Sound.  Hopefully the US Coast Guard, our regulating authority will take note.
