Hello and welcome to this group, well just me at the moment, Ive formed this group for the benefit of all the children who lived in the Court Lodge childrens home in Knockholt Kent. Also welcome are the staff who looked after us so well and any friends especially from the local village school. Ive just learnt that in addition to being a Childrens Society (Waifs and Strays) home in the Sixties, it was previously a Fairbridge home for the dispatch of Child Migrants, it may have been known to them as John Howard Mitchell House, so, you are also welcome on this group. I lived at the home in 1964-65-66, during that time it WAS my home, the other children and staff where my family, but then, when you are taken away for what ever reason, suddenly its gone, all contact with your "family" lost. It all seems like a dream now, Ive searched the net for a few years but to no avail, so, if like me you would like to rekindle memories of those happy times, or maybe you want contact with people you can relate to, or just to meet up with old friends and to be reassurred that life was kind too them, then heres the place to do it. Anybody with any history of the old place is welcome to contribute too. Ive posted a picture of the church next door that we used to walk past on the way to school, and certainly in my day, to attend. When I get a scanner, Ive got a picture of a few of us taken in 1964 on the steps that I will post. Anyway heres hoping. Anybody wishing to join this group, please at least give some indication on your application message that you have some tengable connection to Court Lodge We all look forward to meeting you..
