1. Site Navigation

1.1 How can I see all messages from the many sections in one easy to read format?

Click 'Messages' and then

View all message boards at once

http://groups.msn.com/crabstreetjournal/funstuff.msnw?all_topics=1

You can then click the

<< Back 1 Month |  Back 1 Week  | Forward 1 Week  | Forward 1 Month  >>

Navigation system to go back or forward a month or week.

This way you can keep up with new messages in the one screen
rather than visit the individual message boards.

2. How to submit content to the magazine

2. 1 How to submit content to the Calendar Crabs photos

How to Submit a CalendarCrab CrabbyPhoto

CalendarCrabs is a competition in which you can enter high-quality photos of your hermit crabs. The photo with the most votes receives 'Calendar Crab' status and will appear both on the home page of the Land Hermit Crab Owners Society and in the Society's 2004 calendar.

Preferred File Types:

JPEG (.jpg) and GIF (.gif)

We prefer photos to be sent in .jpg or .gif format. If you don't have a program which can convert to these file types, there are several free programs which you can downloard. ACDSee is one that I use.

The above two types are preferred, both because they are easier to add to the site, cross-platform (Mac<->PC and other reasons relating to site update.

Other formats accepted (but not recommended unless necessary)

Bitmap (.bmp)

TIF (.tif)

Photshop Document (.psd)

3. Who pays for the webhosting and domain name

3.1 Webhosting
The Crab Street Journal Magazine's site is hosted at a cost of $USD8 per month.
It allows for 1000MB and 5Gig Data Transfer/Bandwidth

3.2 Domain
The domain www.crabstreetjournal.com costs $15 per year

4. Fundraising  and how can I help contribute?

4.1 Fundraising for The Crab Street Journal online magazine is currently in the form of our Cafepress Store. We have just added a donations button through PayPal and in the near future by donations made through online stores and by sponsorship in conjunction with our directory of hermit crab products and services.

4.2 Where can I find the store?

The main address is http://www.cafepress.com/crabstreet You can also find the store by visiting the Magazine's website at http://www.crabstreetjournal.com and clicking on 'shopping' or the store items on the main page.

4.3 Why was the store created?

The store was created to raise money to support the magazine, The Crab Street Journal. At present it goes towards covereing the cost of domain name, webhosting and expenses associated with competitions and purchasing software to run the site. The hope is that one day we can afford to hire someone to publish a print version.Unfortunately at the moment we have nowhere near enough funds to do so. If you would like to volunteer to take on the task of layout of the print version please let me know.

4.4 How does the store work?

The store is powered by Cafepress, a company which will print your designs on their products, process the orders and send its store owners the commissions raised. Images must be added to an image library, and one or two images are added to each product which will later be screen printed onto the product 'on demand'. Eg. Mary A. visits the crabstreetjournal cafepress store and likes the Large Mug with the words 'I'm always a little crabby before my first cup'. She clicks on the product and orders it, pays for it with her credit card, and finishes the check out process. Cafepress bills her credit card, posts the item out to Mary A. and adds the commission raised (usually $2-3) to the crabstreetjournal store's 'cafecash'. Cafecash can be used to pay for the cafepress store, or a check can be sent out to the store owner.

4.5 How can I help?

You can submit photos, sayings and graphics for the store by sending a messag to the messageboard http://groups.msn.com/crabstreetjournal/cafepressstore.msnw and/or adding an image to the store pictures folder http://groups.msn.com/crabstreetjournal/cafepressstore.msnw
