THE HAPPY TOOTH   NEWSLETTER FOR

CREATE A SMILE DENTAL FOUNDATION

WINTER 2005

Mission
The mission of Create A Smile Dental Foundation is to obtain funding for dental care for people who have no dental insurance, inadequate dental insurance, and for those who do not have the funds to obtain proper dental care, essentially low income individuals, both children and adults. We will help those who cannot get help from other sources.

New Program 2005

We have initiated a new program for 2005. Since we are such a new organization and not widely recognized, our grant writing program was at best dismal. We did get $1000.00 each from Poshard Foundation, SIH and AmerenCIPS, also a $500 donation from VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Marion. We received a $175.00 life membership from Mr. Ken Suchy, and a Charter Membership from Mr. Bob Browning for $100. plus $200. from the Carterville LIons Club, and many donations of $100 or less from local individuals. It seems to me we need to concentrate our efforts locally to get donations. Now to the new program.....We have started visiting dentists in Carbondale and presenting them with our proposal that they
1. Donate two or more charitable cases a year to CASDF and we use our applicants for those.
2. Donate money.
3. donate toothpaste, brushes, floss and other items to give at our “bucket brigades” in exchange for monetary donations.
4. Sponsor an event(Bucket brigade, cake walk, etc)
5. Sponsor an ad in the booklet. We are getting good results in the ‘donate 2 cases’ program and the toothpaste, etc program, but nothing in the money programs. The University Place Dental Center has pledged two(2) $700. charity cases and Dr Butt in Carbondale had pledged dental services, toothbrushes and floss for our Bucket Brigade. We plan to visit all of the dentists in the 6 county area. If you know of a really generous dentist let us know.

BUCKET BRIGADE

We have not had a fundraising project lately. Any good ideas out there? We are planning a “Bucket Brigade” or two at the end of this month. Weather needs to be a little warmer. How about Feb. 25 at Veach and Gentry Intersection in Carterville. We had one there last year and did real well. $500+ for a couple hours. We could also do one in Zeigler at the intersection of Rt. 148 and Main on March 4. Fridays are good cause folks get paid on Fridays. We will need a few good volunteers for this endeavor. If you would like to volunteer call 985-4964. Colp and 149 is yet another good intersection. Gotta check that one out.

NEW VOLUNTEER

Director Anita Skobel at Dr Butts office in Carbondale introduced me to Shani Doyle who is a registered dental hygienist at that office and she graciouslly offered to help us out, we will , as equally graciouslly, take her up on her offer!! Thank you Anita and Shani. Anyone else know good volunteers? You can get your name in the newsletter...Woohoo
