WINTER IN CRETE
Crete is one of the most southern points of Europe and it lies in the sub-tropical zones.
During a short winter period from December till March the sun sometimes is replaced by cloudy days without Greece's export article Nr 1. 
There are days with heavy rainfall turning the streets into rivers and making the stones loose from the mountains. When temperatures are very cold, than this rain becomes snow in the higher parts of the mountains.
Cities and villages along the coastline seldom have snow and if there's rain, it's alsmost never for a whole day.
There are days in the Winter that you can spend on the beach although the hours to enjoy the sun are short.
Seawater temperatures fall down after the winter. This because of the melting snow from the mountains that flows trough the rivers into the sea. Swimming fans can take a plunge here in the clearest water of Europe.
Specially the south coast is ideal for overwintering if you are looking for the Cretan atmosphere and not for the excitement from the cities.
WINTER TOURISM is the New Market for CRETE, but the Cretans where never very interested to devellope this season in their Tourist Business.
