| Wealthiest SA suburbs targetted the most by violent crime-gangs: June 30 2008 - PRETORIA. The most dangerous neighbourhoods in South Africa where one of more likely to be robbed at gunpoint, also have the 'wealthier' residents: the taxpayers in Brooklyn, Garsfontein, Sandton, Honeydew, Douglasdale in Gauteng/Transvaal province also suffer the most from armed hijackings and armed robbery gangs. http://www.saps.gov.za/statistics/reports/crimestats/2008/crime_stats_2008.htm House-robberies by large gangs, usually armed with AK-47s and police-issue revolvers or military assault carbines, has increased by a whopping 13,5% and armed hijackings of motor vehicles with 4,4% - and most of these take place in the 'wealthier' neighbourhoods of Gauteng. The police 's spindoctors claim however that 'because often well-known people are targetted by such crimes, they tend to be reported more in the media, leading to the false impression that these crimes were more prevalent...' This according to the SA Police Service's newly released statistics anyway -- which are deemed very untrustworthy and grossly underreported by the vast majority of crime-experts in South Africa. South Africa has been consistently underreporting its violent-crime statistics. Many such crimes go unreported also because of 'incompetent' police station staff, who refuse to investigate reports unless there's been a serious injury or murder accompanying it. Each year, the regime emphasises its reporting on crime statistics with claimed 'reductions' in the more minor crimes, yet each year, the number of violence-related crimes, such as murders, armed-robberies of home owners and rapes still increase.
