| It's warfare for defenceless Afrikaner families in South Africa June 23 2008 -- Nothing whatsoever was robbed during the following armed attacks and many others like it -- which are increasingly targetting Afrikaner families in South Africa. The attacks have not only increased by number, but the size of the gangs, often armed with military-assault weapons, has also increased. Often there are as many as 10 attackers in each assault team. They often also undertake reconnaissance surveys of the target homes days before the planned attacks. Invariably, all the attackers are armed black males, and all the victims are Afrikaner families inside their homes. Summary 1. Wonderboom mechanic Koos Uys, 35, suffocated by 'hungry' armed attackers The latest such attack took place on June 23 2008, when nine uniformed attackers assaulted an Afrikaner family in Centurion that Saturday-morning. The working-class family underwent the terrorist-attack, described as a 'mini-war' by Beeld Afrikaans newspaper, at around 5.30am at their home in Spekhout Street. At least nine armed, uniformed attackers arrived in two cars, broke open the heavy metal security gate and the family's front door and then tried to storm into the family's home. The family -- mom, 28, three kids aged five, two and eighteen months, two grandparents and an uncle, all hid in the main bedroom while dad, 36, engaged the attackers in a fierce gun-battle with his legal, small handgun. Shells from a SA military assault R4-carbine, shotguns, 9mm police-handguns and a small .22 handgun were picked up after the fierce gunfight. The Afrikaner family woke up when the attackers were breaking into their front door, using angle-irons. The dad said he jumped up from his bed, grabbed his handgun and started firing carefully-targetted shots just as he saw the first armed men crashing into the hallway. "The first uniformed guy shouted that he was from the police but the guy behind him immediately started shooting towards me at about the same time. I shot back, hitting the first guy in the head and killing him - I also hit the second guy in the chest and another one in the body.' He said their other uniformed comrades then dragged away the two injured men and fled, leaving the dead man in the hallway. ' Police discovered during investigation of the crime-scene that the uniformed man had been wearing a bullet-proof vest beneath his clothing. -
The dad said that he was certain that all the attackers wore wearing bullet-proof vests beneath their uniforms too -- 'because there wasn't a speck of blood on our erf, at the entrance nor outside. Yet I also know for a fact that I had hit those other two,' he said. While the dad rushed back to his room to fetch more ammo for his handgun, fearing that they'd be back, the attackers fled in a white Chrysler Voyager and a black Golf VW. On the Friday-night before, a witness has also told police investigators, she had also seen people in a black Golf without number-plates question the attacked family's maid, and those same witnesses also saw the maid later that evening, talking to people inside a white Chrysler Voyager. Police captain Agnes Huma said that police 'are investigating the possibility that the dead man may have been a police officer or -reservist. Various weapons were also found on the dead man which looked like police service pistols with the serial numbers filed off'. Netcare911 spokesman Mark Stokoe said spent shell casings of R4-, 9mm- en .22- guns were picked up at the scene of the gunfight. The R4 is a very lethal South African-designed military assault carbine which is not available for purchase in SA gunshops.
