Curves Community Net'iquette

RULE # 1

NO ADVERTISING on the boards!

This is an online support community and discussion forum for Curves for Women members, Owners (franchisees),  Managers, Trainers, Employees and "potentials" of each group. We will not tolerate spam or advertising OF ANY KIND, on the boards or through email!

If just one person was allowed to advertise a product, service, another group, etc. then we'd have to allow every one to do it - which would be counter-productive to our community as a whole.

If your interest in the Curves Community is not as a Curves Member, franchisee, manager, trainer, employee or as a potential of one of these groups, but rather - you would like to share information about your business offering, products, services, website etc., with the members of our community, please visit our NEW Community Marketplace for more information.

Now, all that aside, back to the member rules.

As a new member of the community, when you first start posting messages to the boards, you may feel shy. That's good -- it's a sign that you're concerned about the impression you're going to make on a bunch of people you've never met. Fortunately, most community members are here in the first place because they're friendly people who enjoy interacting with others.

Here are some hints on making our community run smoothly:

  • Use descriptive and specific subject lines when you're posting a new discussion. This helps others decide whether your particular words of wisdom relate to a topic they care about.

  • Always check the subject line BEFORE you reply to the message and ask yourself if it appropriately reflects the topic of your post. Often as threads go on the subject changes and you may need to change your subject line.

  • Be sure to pay attention to the board topics. For example, the management has created a new board specifically for community management announcements and unless you're replying to a message posted by management, your message will be removed from the board altogether.
  • If you are posting a message to the community that Is Not related to Curves for Women and/or Health and Fitness Related, or simply doesn't seem to belong on another board, please use the "Curve Off Topic" board.
  • SPAMming is not allowed. SPAM is loosely defined as sending unsolicited email. It is also a violation of MSN Groups/Communities own policies.
  • When typing in URL's or web site addresses make sure you enter the entire address as in http://www.domainname.com to make your link click-able *or* use the *insert link* feature (looks like a little globe with a link), at the top of the message form.
  • Decisions by the community manager(s) are final and abiding. If any of the community manager(s) ask you to drop a topic, please do so.
  • If you are new to the community or have a specific question that you think MAY have been discussed previously, take the time to do a search through the message archives and read what may have been said on the topic previously.
  • When someone writes something that makes you mad (and chances are, someone may), resist the impulse to flame back. One angry response can beget a long and nasty flame war. Phrase your postings politely. Profanity will not be tolerated. If you want to express a strong opinion, cute euphemisms and made-up expletives are usually acceptable. Be careful about posting late at night or any time you're tired, sick, or having a terrible day. Your judgment may not be at its best. When in doubt, hold off until you feel better.
  • If your posting is only of interest to a specific geographic area, and the discussion seems like it will be an ongoing thread, try to post your message in such a way that you will be identifying those who pertain to that discussion. *Use the subject line*
  • Knowing the difference between a "new discussion" and "replying" to an already existing discussion will help keep messages organized and easy to find. If you want to ask a question or begin a discussion which is not already being discussed, (for instance, you are introducing yourself as a new member or want to ask other members for their opinions about a specific concern you have) this is when you'd want to begin a "new discussion". If you are answering another members question or wish to voice your opinion about a particular "current discussion", this is when you'd want to "reply" to a message.
  • Always ask the author's permission to forward a post to another list or community. Sometimes people share with friends or colleagues within one community or group and want the information to go no further. And creating the impression, even by accident, that another person's expertise or research is yours, could be considered plagiarism.
  • Don't use ALL CAPITAL LETTERS in your posts. It's considered YELLING and beyond that, it's just plain difficult to read.

Be forgiving of other people's mistakes.

You were a internet newbie once too!

Don't be afraid to ask questions. As we've all probably heard before, "the only dumb question is the question that isn't asked".

 Please be Gentle

Feelings Are Everywhere
