Recently I've been working with Dale DeGroff, and several other dedicated Cocktailians across the country to help create a new and exciting venue for celebrating the history and culture associated with the cocktail. In January 2005, we will be see the first incarnation of The Museum for the American Cocktail as a special exhibit in The Pharmacy Museum of New Orleans. We are now ready to start taking membership applications, and I've been asked to allow my discussion forum to be the official discussion forum for it's membership to communicate with the museum staff/founders, as well as other members. Members, and non-members alike, are welcome to participate in the discussions here, which will continue with the long-time purpose of furthering all of our knowledge and appreciation for cocktails, spirits, and related topics.
Here, you will find a tight knit community of individuals who are dedicated to the “Cuisine de Cocktail”. The art of Mixology is a true craft, one that is far more complex then simply splashing some vodka over a couple of ice cubes and calling it complete. When properly prepared, a cocktail presents itself as a subtle blend of flavors with each of them balancing carefully off the other.
Everyone is welcome to participate in these discussion forums. Newcomers may have a tendency to be slightly intimidated by both the passion, and the experience of the regular members. Please spend a few moments reading some of the past discussion threads to help you get comfortable with some of the topics that we love to deal with here. Then dive right in and start asking some of the questions that are on your mind. We all love nothing better then to help others gain an appreciation of the cocktail.
“Cocktails are one of the first purely American culinary arts. Early European travelers to the U.S. often commented favorably on this new style of drink preparation and eventually it spread around the world.”
