Evangelist Mulvina White (Needham), founder of this organisation, Married George White whom initially did not accept the Oneness gospel.

This couple worked hard together and established many rural churches. In Kingston, worship started at South Parade, then moved to New Town, North Street near Oxford Street, then to King and Beeston Streets. This was our first building location in Kingston.

However, the owner of the premises had requested its use, and so a permanent place for worship was sought and lands having been found at 167 King Street was bought. Construction had begun on this site of what would have been a very large and beautiful edifice for the Lord, but not obtaining the help needed construction ceased. This was in the year 1935 in which the Emmanuel Apostolic Church of Christ had her birth.

The loss of property led to a split among the brethren. Not having a place of worship, her home at Alton Villa Road was transformed to the meeting place. This condition continued for a while until a place was purchased at 64 North Street.

This building also became inadequate, as God continued to add to the church such as should be saved. Pastor White was successful in acquiring property at 36 Heroes Circle. This was accomplished by the sale of the property at 64 North Street and assistance from Bishop Carr who contributed.

With the help of the Lord, the late Pastor White, along with Bishop Thomas, the late Elder McNish, and the late Deacon Melhado, started the construction of the building at National Heroes Circle. This was in 1951. Worship was then conducted under a

In a short time Pastor White along with other ministers, established eighteen (18) churches. At the first ministerial council held in June 1954 a decision was tabled to have the word ‘Incorporated’ as part of the church name. This was effected 1954 under the name EMMANUEL APOSTOLIC CHURCH OF CHRIST INC., making this organisation to receive this status in Jamaica.

During her time, she had two bishops ordained, Bishop S. U. Thomas and Bishop S.U. Senior, two men who are competent dedicated and hard working. She was blessed with a powerful singing ministry.

On Monday, September 23, 1969 after suffering a stroke, Pastor Mulvina White was called to higher service.

The “mantle” fell on our present pastor, Bishop S. U. Thomas. Through this man, the church now has a voice on radio; “The Sound of Pentecost” broadcast. There are also two outstanding women assisting the Bishop in his endeavours: 1) his wife Mother Joyce Thomas, a loving devoted untiring wife and 2) Sister Eva Weir, a trustworthy, able, efficient secretary, and General Secretary of the Organisation for in excess of forty (40) years.

On the 7th May 1988, the church moved to its current site at 12 Slipe Road, when they had out-grown their previous location. By a tremendous leap of faith, Bishop Thomas transformed what was then the Tropical Theatre into the beautiful edifice that now stands. By no means did his work stop there, for apart from the much improved building on Slipe Road, Bishop Thomas now presides over 44 churches in Jamaica and Florida.

The Emmanuel Academic Institute is a registered Private High School, with the Ministry of Education. It was established in 1986 at 36 Heroes Circle and expanded in 1988 when it moved to the church’s present location. The school offers a range of certificate courses for HEART-NTA.

The Mulvina White Basic School, which started in 1994, is a project under the Missionary Department of the Church. It was named in memory of the late Pastor Mulvina White.

In 1999, the highly acclaimed Emmanuel Mass Choir became the first local church choir to produce an album. Headed by Minister of Music, Elder Silbert Thomas Jnr., the album draws on musical talent from both local and oversees.

In november 2001, the organisation again created history, when it elevated seven elders to Bishop, making it the first such for any pentecostal body in Jamaica. The group involved five local district elders and two oversees based elders.
