Remembering Your Dreams

Almost eveyone finds some form of deeper meaning in their dreams. Many believe that the content of their dreams reflects events that are going on in their lives on a deper level than they are normally be aware of. Others enjoy analyzing the symbols in their dreams in order to discover hidden knowledge about their personality and the consequences of their actions. Some find that their dreams contain metaphors for incidences in their real life and many people look to their dreams for inspiration, life lessons, and answers to questions that remain otherwise unanswered.
 
However you choose to interpret your dreams, fully remembering your dreams is key. For people who are vivid dreamers or light sleepers, remembering dreams come easily. For others, it takes a certain ammount of patience and practice. There are many methods that can be employed to help you remember your dreams. Outlined are a few that are tried, tested, and true:

Be well rested.
You have a much greater chance of remembering your dreams fully in the morning if you aren't groggy when you wake up. You also have a much greater chance of remembering your dreams if you don't fall back to sleep after waking up in the morning.
 
Keep a notebook and pen beside your bed.
When you wake up, write down everything you can remember about your dream. Once you have this written down, you will be able to recall most of your dream later. Consider keeping a dream diary complete with your initial interpretations and feelings.
 
Talk to yourself.
This sounds silly, but that's basically it. When you are about to fall asleep, remind yourself that you intend to dream that night and that you will remember your dreams in the morning. Affirm this, repeat it, believe it. It sounds fluffy, but it works. You may want to create some sort of a mantra, or chant, to reinforce these habits. The sheer power of your determination to dream and remember your dreams will make it possible for you to do so. Once this starts working for you, and it should after a few tries, you can start to play with this ability. You can learn to control yourself to dream about certain things using this basic technique. Think of the possibilities...
It is also possible to 'train yourself', so to speak, to wake up after every dream as well using this technique. This is useful brecause the average person has many dreams in any given night.
 
Take time to wake up.
 Don't hit that snooze button and fall back asleep! Dream recall is most likely to occur just as you come to your senses in the morning and while you are lying in the same position that you slept in. Don't jump up to turn off your alarm and don't get up right away. Lie in the position that you wake up in for a minute and see what comes to you. Pay attenton and note how you are feeling because many dreams leave you feeling very emotional after you wake up. You may not remember your dream, but paying attention to the way you are feeling as you wake up can trigger memories of your dream. You will find that once you remember part of a dream or even an emotion the entire dream will come flooding back to you.
