One February 28th, 18 guests and 12 active members gathered at the Science Hall for the first chapter meeting after Chinese New Year! The meeting progressed in a friendly atmosphere and everyone showed their participation and passion, the Toastmasters way. Two guests served the facilitator roles in the meeting: Joy Zhang as Ah counter and Vincent Wen as timer who expressed interest in joining Toastmasters after the meeting, WELCOME! Murphy Wang, a senior N.E TM member, came back after seven months of absence, surprised us by bringing his daughter, a lovely little girl, the youngest guest of N.E TM ever, who performed very well all through the night.
Edward Zhang, Toastmaster of the Evening, led all of us through a pleasant journey bridging the gaps between each segment and from one speaker to the next, smoothly. He shared with us an excellent TOP TEN SIGNS SHOW THAT YOU'VE BEEN SCAMMED (audience may not realise this, it is exactly the way David Letterman does it, read the list but not memorize each line).
Lily Liu, Table Topic Master gave us a serials of questions concerning scams that happened around our daily life, her session caught our attention and inspired a vigorous discussion. Thanks to Lily and each participants, we had learnt a lot more including how to distinguish bad people as well as protect ourself better.
We had four speeches:
Crystal Xu , a professional headhunter, appearing a bit shy at first, shared with us her professional experience. The evaluator for her was Jimmy Li. Amy Guan's speech used vivid example to tell us the benifit of mentsl model, her individual evaluator was Pearl Luo. Cindy Pan spoke about the QQ culture - originally an online chatter software "made in China", helped us to communicate through the Internet, now has become part of our life and culture.
The evaluator for her was Jade Han. Angela Zhang shared with us her experience of confronting a scam. In her summation, she suggested, "If you are not greedy you will not be cheated"- a wise piece of advice. Her speech was evaluated by Murphy Wang.
Johnson Li stepped up as General Evaluator at the last minute. He did a good job sharing his feeling of the whole meeting, showing progress and potentials to a good speaker. The meeting ended at a high note, everyone was looking forward for the next to meet again.
