| Between now and the end of March 2013, Britain will change over from ANALOGUE to DIGITAL TELEVISION RECEPTION and the links here may help the user work through the maze of information that is currently available about the switchover. Here are the steps to follow if you want to try and get digital television using a FREEVIEW box. There is no guarantee that you will get a signal, let alone pictures, at this stage in the switchover but, you might be lucky and anyone who could previously get pictures from the Northern Ireland transmitters at Limavaddy or Divis has a fairly good chance of getting a FREEVIEW box to work today but, don't hold your breath ! To make sense of everything, you need BOTH YOUR POSTCODE and YOUR "ORDNANCE SURVEY" MAP REFERENCE. Write down your POSTCODE - Then Click Here to FIND YOUR "O.S." MAP REFERENCE Type your Postcode into the Search Box of "MultiMap" and, having scrolled down the page to below the bottom of the map, you will find a box which begins by giving your Location - Grid Reference - Postcode District - X and Y Co-Ordinates - Latitude and Longitude - Write down the figures for the Grid Reference beside your Postcode. Next, go to the U.K. Digital TV Predictor Page - It looks a bit complicated at first - BELOW the "Welcome" are a series of boxes marked LOCAL - DISTANT and DX followed by 'Antenna Height x metres' and there is already a little green dot in the first 'LOCAL' box. DELETE THE "SN5881" entry in the box beside "GO" and TYPE YOUR GRID REFERENCE [NOT YOUR POSTCODE] INTO THE BOX - Then click on "GO". If it says "Nothing within local range of OS grid reference . . . . ", then click on the DISTANT box and click on "GO" again. If it then says "Nothing within distant range of OS grid reference . . . . ", then click on the DX box and click on "GO" again. Hopefully now, Column 1 will give you the name of a transmitter which is already broadcasting digital television signals. NOW PRINT OUT THE WHOLE PAGE "LANDSCAPE" because the information you need is (off-screen) on the right of the table ! There, in the Columns Gp and Pol, you will find the type of aerial that you need to receive digital television signals, the column marked 'Distance miles' then tells you how far you are from the transmitter and the column marked 'Bearing degrees' tells you exactly where to aim your new aerial ! In all probability you will now need to buy a NEW AERIAL and a BOOSTER BOX (and a compass) to set up everything and you will almost certainly need to play about with the height of the new aerial too to try and get the best signal.
