| On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve of 1906 the first Broadcasting occurred. Three days in advance Reg had his operators notify the ships of The U.S. Navy and of The United Fruit Co. that were equipped with the Fessenden apparatus that it was the intention of the Brant Rock Station to broadcast speech, music and singing on those two evenings. The history of The United Fruit Company makes interesting reading, not only because of its seeming relationship with the U.S. administration but too because of its monopolistic persuasions in dealing with others. The Ships List website too outlines something of the company's history and details all the ships in the company's fleet as well as giving links to other interesting matters and The United Fruit Historical Society website, now under development, will eventually prove another useful resource for study. |
