Widow Net -

Annie says: A comprehensive site with many resources available for widows and widowers, although it needs some updating at this time.

WidowNet is an important information and self-help resource for widows and widowers. Owned and operated by a man, this site's  topics include grief, bereavement, recovery, and other information helpful to people of any age, religious background or sexual orientation, who have suffered the death of a life partner or spouse. Good support and exchange system between grievers. Being updated at this time (2006).

Transformations -

Annie says: This is a beautiful site, even if it doesn't meet your immediate needs.

This is a community of people who come together to share messages of self-help and recovery. It is a forum of support and healing, but also a forum of growth, self-improvement, and renewal. They know that communicating with others who have walked the same path helps to bolster strength and confidence. By sharing experiences, they not only learn they are not alone but often become more active in their own recovery.

Griefnet -

Annie says:  Extensive offerings for grievers of all kinds.  Read the lovely review of Annie's book, "For Widows Only!," under Library > Annotated Bibliography > Widowed > For Widows Only.

This is an Internet community of people dealing with grief, death, and major loss. They have e-mail support groups and two web sites. Their integrated approach to on-line grief support provides help to people working through loss and grief issues of many kinds. They have a companion site for kids, which provides a safe environment for kids and their parents to find information and ask questions.

After Loss -

Annie says: Years of experience behind this site, AfterLoss primarily serves the funeral industry.

This site is intended to help in the management of grief of many kinds, always allowing that grief is a process, not an event. Because the loss of a loved one is such as highly personal matter, they know your grief process will be a totally individual one. However, the site was created because there are many experiences common to those who grieve. They produce materials that deal with each of several kinds of loss, including widowhood.

Journey Of Hearts -

Annie says: A lot of nice things going on here.

This site was designed to be a Healing Place, providing resources and support for anyone in the grief process from a loss or a significant life change. Their target audience may be a bit broad to find much specific help for widows, but it just might offer what you are searching for.

TAPS -

Annie says: An impressive resource for those who have lost their mates in the Armed Forces.

The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, Inc. (TAPS ) is a national non-profit group which providies services to those who have lost a loved one while serving in the Armed Forces. They offer
a national military survivor support network, grief counseling referral, case worker assistance as well as crisis information. Not limited to widows.

AARP Grief and Loss -

Annie says: Extensive site; very professional and complete

For more than 30 years, AARP Grief and Loss Programs have helped bereaved adults and their families cope with the loss of loved ones. Community programs at the local level offer bereavement outreach services, support groups and educational events. Publications dealing with specific areas of grief support are available in English and Spanish. Comprehensive information as well as online support groups and facilitated discussion boards are available through this Web site.

Web Healing -
Annie says: Some helpful ideas, but dealing with losses of all kinds

This page belongs to Tom Golden, a psychotherapist, author and speaker on the topig of healing from loss. He says the site is meant to be a place men and women can discuss, chat or simply browse to understand and honor the many different paths to heal strong emotions. There are many resources on this page including excerpts from his books on the subject of loss.

Annie Says: About the suggested sites: -

The sites above are recommended for use by widows. Sites that have specific pages of use to widowers are noted in the color RED. We urge men to participate in those sites, rather than try to participate in For Widows Only! We wish all grieving widowers well; but please note that this site is designed for the use of widows only.
