Rob and I were married for 7 short years. He died of DVT after having surgery to remove his colon. Some days are better than others. One day I wake up "okay" and other days I wake up and I can only go from hour to hour. My children (ages 2 and 4) have been my saving grace. I miss Rob so much! Is there going to ever be an end to this immense pain? I never thought I would become a widowso soon at 33. (Rob was only 38).

Hello, New to this group. Wish I had found you sooner! Have been a widow for 4 years this August 14th. I lost my Eric after 24 years of marriageafter a devastating cancer diagnosis that spread to his brain. He died at home in the arms of his family and dog and cat all lying on the bed with him as he wanted. Have I had a rollercoaster few years! Yet I never would trade one moment of our life together. It is like the song "The Dance" by Garth Brooks. It still chokes me up to hear that song as it was one of his favorites. Yet it is so true. I wish I had found you all when he first died when I felt to lost and alone! Thank God for my family and the true friends who remained after the stigma of widow got added to me. I have read about 80 of your postings and have I been there! You made me feel so much better and less alone in this new stage of my life. I am 50 now and entering middle life alone, yet I have come out the other side of this even stronger than I was before. And at one time I thought it took strength just to deal with the cancer! I still deeply miss my Love, but I know he is in a better place and is not suffering and that gives me solace. I think we tried to prepare each other for what was to come and he told me many times that I would be ok and life would be magical again. Well life has changed and is still wondorous but the magical part remains to be seen. I want to thank you all for your honesty and thoughts and to tell you that you are all an inspiration to each other and to me. Thank you for the gift of this group! Judy

Hi, my name is Rita. I have been a widow for over 8 months now. My husband of 32 years, Dave, died 2 days before Thanksgiving of 2004. He had a rare undiagnoised cancer that took his life within 6 weeks of onset of symtoms. They did'nt know what he had until 2 weeks before he died! It was a horrible ordeal and the out come was losing my best friend, lover, provider and companion. He was 52 , I am 50. I recently moved to PA from MD to be close to our 30 year old twin son's and their families. It is a big adjustment but I am hanging in there. Everyone tells me this is a great opportunity in my life, to start over, I guess they just don't get it, I was happy with the way it was!! Any way I am so thankfull all you lovely ladies are there, you don't know how much your postings comfort me, encourage me and help me to get thru each day. I pray for all of you as I read them, that God will give an extra blessing of strength to help you to get thru another day!!

Husband, Kenneth, died April 30, 2005 in a motorcycle accident. We were married 28 years and have two daughters (in their 20's) and a grandson. I use a wheelchair full time due to post polio syndrome, so he was my caregiver...

My husband Rick died on May 26,2005 after a long bout with leukemia and bone marrow transplants...I loved him dearly and miss him so much...when filling out the interest section above I realized that my interests were his interests at first...he taught me to play both sports and I am now left without a partner to play with...besides dealing with all the STUFF that goes along with this journey I am now going to have to find my own interests (not that I will quit tennis or golf...they will just never be the same)...I don't think I am ready to begin that yet!

I found this website because you had the word, wine, in your description. I am interested in wine but more interested in touching base with other widows. Somewhat to help others and somewhat to help me. I read this over again today (9/26), and I know how much help this has been. I wonder if I was somehow guided here when I needed help so badly. After all, why would a search for wine lead me here. You all know how hard it is to get a decent listing out of a browser - ah, serendipity. My husband, Jack, passed away in April, 2003. He and I fought Cancer for 18 months+ before the doctors told him there was nothing more they could do for him. People tell me I am doing well, but I have some really scary moments. I think I am waiting for the other shoe to drop. Pat (Pattiwatt)

Alot of the things I enjoyed I did with my husband, so now I have to learn to do some things alone. We loved to take 3 or 4 days trips together.I will miss those the most. we loved doing things together. I have never traveled, or done much without him beside me doing the same thing.

This group, especially ShortBev, has made me laugh and cry in ways I really needed to. I lost my husband on 25 July 2003 and every day I miss him, but over the past 6 months, I have learnt to see amazing blessings in the world again. Each day is easier knowing I have you for support, and that I'm not the only one finding things tough.
