Nikki dated Andy before leaving Oakdale for college. After she broke up with him in a letter, he began to drink again.

Nancy celebrated her 80th birthday on the Valetta with a slew of family and friends. However, the ship sunk. When Sam and Kirk disappeared that night, suspicion was cast on James.

After Lew left, Camille learned she had breast cancer. Unable to cope, she ran off and met Brad, Jack's brother. When she came back, Ben proposed. She accepted, but had a one-night-stand with Brad. Camille told him they would never be together, so Brad dated Molly. Jack blamed Brad for their dad's death, but Camille revealed that Brad was only covering for their mother, Dolores.

Margo killed Deena during a drug bust and took in her son, Eddie. Meanwhile, Tom worked with Emily at The Argus, and she pursued him. Eddie had a crush on Margo, so Emily made it look like they were involved, causing Margo to lose her job. Margo learned she was pregnant, but miscarried the night Tom slept with Emily. Soon, Emily announced she was expecting. Tom and Margo learned of Emily's tricks, and he blasted Emily for her deceit. She faked threats from David to gain sympathy, but actually was being followed.

Samantha's daughter, Georgia Tucker arrived in town and befriended Eddie. However, he was interested in Margo's younger sister, Katie.

To snag a $50 million trust fund, Carly had to marry and give birth by year's end. She and Jack declared their love while locked in a shed together by rogue cop Teague, but Jack was wounded during their rescue. Realizing he couldn't father her baby in time, Carly wed Hal. She made love to him, but also enlisted John's help in getting artificially inseminated. Jack moved on to Julia, but a jealous Carly couldn't stay away. Hal learned of Carly's schemes and filed for divorce, which sent Carly in search of the sperm donor--who turned out to be John! Though he wanted to reconcile with Lisa, John wed Carly, but she had to sign over custody of her baby first.

Barbara divorced John and grew closer to her ex, Hal.

Molly tried to blackmail Holden into marriage, but he wed Lily. Molly retaliated by lying that he set the church fire. Holden was found guilty, but was later exonerated. Emily broke her engagement to David after learning that he was still involved with his father, James. David took up with Molly, who was paid to seduce him by Lucinda. He found out, dumped Molly at the alter, then kidnapped Lily and Julia. Lily gave birth to Hope in captivity. When Holden made the ransom drop, he shot David in self-defense. Julia helped bury the body so James (who was out of prison) wouldn't seek revenge. Consequently, Julia needed pills to calm down, and a stranger shadowed her. Lucinda wed James to keep him from learning his son's fate. Lily and Hope were safe, but another baby girl was being cared for elsewhere.
