Week of July 18

Alison decides to move to Seattle to be with Aaron.

Mike is touched by Katie's actions, but tells her she has to stay away. Katie fears she is losing Mike. On Thursday, Katie spills her guts to Henry about her sordid tryst with Mike.

On Monday, Carly learns that she was responsible for what happened to Iris's child. How does Carly react when she learns Jack knew the truth all along? Carly reels from the horrible memories of her past.

On Tuesday, Gwen backs Craig into a corner. Will admits his true feelings to Celia. Meanwhile, Gwen struggles to adjust to her new reality, and has a hard time with her baby's fate. Will and Gwen tell Barbara the truth. Casey and Will come to blows (Friday).

Baby Mania

"Jennifer is in shock and overcome with grief and doesn't really want to accept that her baby is gone," says her portrayer, Jennifer Ferrin in SOD. "But it's also just a feeling that she has. Call it maternal instinct, but she just feels that it's not right. I mean, who would want to believe that something like [a baby's death] could be possible?"

Jennifer goes through with a memorial service for little John Dustin (named after Barbara's late baby and the friend who delivered this one). She even invites Craig (who doesn't show) and accepts comfort from Dusty, not Mike. "This is so huge that nothing else is really entering her psyche," notes Ferrin. "She's trying to figure out a way to deal with it and in the meantime, she keeps getting these feelings that her baby is still alive."

It turns out she's right. Rosanna makes a huge discovery. "The biggest thing that tips Rosanna off is Craig's behavior," explains Head Writer Jean Passanante in SOW. "He doesn't seem to be grieving. She finds out he was invited to the memorial service and didn't go. That's a big [clue] or her, because she expected him, at the very least, to want to lay claim to the child even though the child is dead."

Rosanna becomes even more suspicious when she learns the nurse at the hospital is missing, but Craig is not concerned. "He's pretty cocky," asserts Passanante. "In his mind, it's completely justifiable. He believes this baby was stolen from him and he's simply stealing it back. There was that scene where he was looking at the two incubators thinking, 'God, this is too easy.' So he went with it and seems to be getting away with it."

Rosanna notices a crease in the baby's foot and compares the footprints to the baby given to her before. "It's clearly not the same child," points out Passanante. "Rosanna knows Craig very, very well. She was in love with this man at one time. She knows how he operates and that Craig wouldn't give up so easily."

Once Rosanna confronts Craig, he tries to talk his way out of it--to no avail. "She's completely horrified. The one thing that you don't do with Rosanna is let it be known that a mother has had her baby taken away from her. She's carrying a secret, and it will explode in a completely unexpected way."

When Craig finally confesses that he switched Jennifer's baby with Gwen's, Rosanna takes off and calls Paul in a panic from her car--with Craig chasing after her. Thus, beginning an umbrella story that will eventually encompass much of the cast. "It's going to go on for quite awhile," reveals Ferrin. (SOD, SOW)

Week of July 25

  • Henry's little sister, Maddie, arrives in Oakdale (Wednesday).
  • Emily is stunned by what she overhears (Tuesday).
  • Rosanna reaches out to Paul.
  • Rosanna pays the price for Craig's latest scheme (Friday).

Coming Up...

How will Craig exit Oakdale? The details aren't public yet, but Head Writer Jean Passanante says "Actually, I think it will be not only a conclusion [to Craig's story] but a springboard [to something else]. We are very excited about it." (SID)  Also, Craig and Rosanna won't be leaving together!

Perspective

Can Will Find True Love?

Since developing a crush on Celia, Will has kept his distance, as she's already going out with his best friend, Casey. "Will's a nice guy," Jesse Soffer says of his alter ego. "He's a stand-up guy. You can't always control your feelings, but you can control your actions."

However, if the right moment ever presented itself, the actor believes Will would jump at the chance to pursue Celia. "I'd say so, yeah," he smiles. "He will definitely capitalize." Of course, Will went through a similar situation with Alison, waiting until Aaron was out of the picture before making his move, so why not go after someone who's unattached, like Gwen? "I like the idea of it, because I love working with Jen [Landon, Gwen]," the actor admits of the pairing.

Unable to share specifics of Will's immediate future, Soffer simply teases, "When it's all said and one, it'll be good soap." (SID)

Is Gwen the Girl for Will?

She got off on the wrong foot with Will on their first date, and her secret with Casey is making his life a living hell, but what does Gwen really want? "I don't think she knows," muses her portrayer, Jennifer Landon. "Because of her family, she might be afraid of becoming close with anybody. And at the same time, there's a drive to be close with people just by human nature."

But will her tough-chick exterior keep anyone from getting through to the real girl inside? "Under all that spitfire, she's pretty levelheaded, because she hasn't had a lot," Landon explains. "There isn't luxury in her life, so she has to be pretty grounded."

While Gwen shares a past with Casey, might she have a future with Will? Teases Landon: "There is a real genuine connection with Will that is really cool!" (SID)
