One of Hollyoaks longest serving characters whose life has been filled with so many traumas, but remains one of the show’s most reliant characters who has been involved in most of the show’s most central storylines.  Mandy Richardson arrived as the underage temptress of Ollie Benson and had dreamed of becoming a supermodel. However, her world was turned upside down when it was revealed that her father Dennis (David Mcalister) had sexually and physically abused her. Thanks to the support of her older brother, Lewis (Ben Hull), Mandy found the strength to take a stand against her father and he was sentenced to seven years in prison. Mandy’s life slowly returned to normal and she got together with heartthrob Luke Morgan, beginning one of the most popular love

stories of Hollyoaks. Tragically this relationship was brought to a sharp end when Luke was a victim of a vicious sex attack. Mandy briefly found solace in Derren Osborne and than later in Ben Davies, yet her devotion and affection was always for Luke as she helped him get over his rape ordeal but her own life was once again turned upside down when her brother, and protector, Lewis, committed suicide. This drove a wedge between Mandy and her mother, Helen, and she started to use Laura Burns (Lesley Johnston), as a confidante, continually oblivious to Laura’s, at times, odd behaviour. Mandy soon started rebuilding her relationship with her mother, whist Mandy’s soul mate Luke had moved to Canada.

On New Year’s 2001, Mandy ended up having a one nightstand with Jamie Nash at the Morgan’s house! Adam had enough of Mandy’s behaviour to his family and had sat in her car, refusing to move. Mandy drove in a fast speed, and she lost control of the car, as the car ended up falling of a cliff and landing near a railway. Mandy survived, with a few cuts and bruises, whist Adam was told he never walk again. Mandy started dating barman Toby Mills, but that lasted a short while because of Toby dumping her. Mandy was low again, but than started to have a secret relationship with Adam Morgan. However, sparks flied when Mandy’s ex and Adam’s brother Luke arrived back in Chester. Mandy ended up sleeping with Luke, but Luke and Adam were both devastated to hear that Mandy was double-crossing the pair. Mandy was dumped by Adam and Luke did not want to know. Mandy turned to the support of friend Laura, who than shocked Mandy when she kissed her. Mandy told Laura to leave, but instead Laura attempted to poinson Mandy, but fortunately Mandy was rescued by Max and Tony, whilst Laura was taken to a mental hospital.

In 2003, more misery continued on in Mandy's world as she disscovered her mother Helen is having and affair with Tony and her father Dennis is being realised from prison. Fearing the worse, Mandy was scared of the consequences of facing her father and to make matters uneven her mother had not been much supportive after Mandy discovered that Helen has been writing to her father during the time he was in prison. After his release, Mandy confronted Dennis and refused to forgive him. Dennis had died from a long term illness,w hich left Mandy sinking his ashes in the drain.

Slowly Mandy began to rebuild her life but she had to deal with step brother Max’s crazy crush on her. Things began to get too much for Mandy as she turned to Tony for support and bizarrely the pair ended up together as they became Chester’s most unlikely couple. However, the relationship faced many tests along the way as Tony cheated on Mandy by sleeping with Ruth and Mandy also cheated on Tony by rekindling a one night stand with Ben. However, more departures happened in Mandy’s life as both her step dad Gordon and mother Helen died in a car crash. This left Mandy devastated and with Max, the pair grieved on. She had now the responsibly of taking care of the businesses and the care of her young step brother Tom.

Mandy’s world was turned upside down as she became violent towards Tony as she often abused her boyfriend until it got out of hand which led to Mandy seeking counselling help. Mandy finally realised that Tony was the one she had wanted and followed him to Rome, where she tried to convince him that she still loves him. The pair ended up in each others arms and got married in Rome.

On returning to Chester, Mandy’s life didn’t seem to cut down on the drama as she fell pregnant. After having mix feeling about whether to have a child, both Mandy and Tony decided to have the child and Mandy gave birth to baby Grace. After weeks on enabling to create a bond with her child, Mandy eventually bonded with her baby. However, the happy ending wasn’t to last as Mandy’s character was to face a one last dramatic storyline which left viewers heartbroken. Baby Grace had died through cot death, which left Mandy distraught With her unable to talk to Tony about her daughter’s death, Mandy turned to his brother Dominic and after sharing a brief kiss, Dominic made it clear that there was no future between hem. After one last emotional goodbye to husband Tony, Mandy told him that she could no longer live in Chester after so many bad memories and needed a fresh start. With Tony understanding Mandy’s position, he decided to let go as Hollyaoks saw the most dominate female character ever in the show say goodbye. Over her ten years in the show, Mandy has been adored by the fans through her dramatic storylines and remained always a permanent character throughout the show. Her departure will certainly mean a huge miss for all Hollyoaks viewers and it is certain that life in Hollyoaks will never be the same without her.
