The Jomac Show 2008
The Auditorium of The Sacred Heart Residence, Sybil Hill, Raheny was full for our annual public performance which took place on May 18th last.
As we have been trying to do for over five decades, we presented a varied mixture of variety turns featuring our current membership together with some performers from past years who can be relied on to be part of what is always a great occasion.
The Show opened with our musical director and keyboard player, Mike Scott who sang and played with his usual flaire.
Along with Mike Scott we had Max Desmond, who played for some of the singers on the Show. It is nice to see Max involved in the Show again after all these years as he was Jomac's very first pianist from 1952.
Songs of today and yesterday were rendered by, Alfie Corlette, Michael Costello, Eddie Bennett, Aileen Treanor, Brendan McQuaile and John Maguire. Mike Stevens marked the occasion of Cliff Richard's 50 years in showbusiness this year by including one of Cliff's earlier hit songs . . .'Living Doll' . . . in his set, much to the delight of the Cliff fans in the audience.
Musical items featured The Doyle and the Staunton Families, The Strawboys with Carolyn Donnelly, Ann Marie McGowan and Bill Byrne, who also doubles as our stage manager.
Irish Dancing was always a "must" in our programme, and we couldn't go wrong with champions Dearbhla Snow and Katie Heffernan ( making her first appearance in Jomac ). Comedy and Magic featured Muriel Casey, Eddie Bennett, Mike Stevens, Carolyn Donnelly and Michael Costello. We cannot forget Patricia Tipple, Ann O'Neill and Margaret Costello for their front of house help which is very important.
In conclusion , we thank all who helped make the event another success, particularly the community at Sybil Hill for their great hospitality, all our performers and helpers, all who donated prizes, our printer Ronan Grace (Print Bureau), our loyal audience and last but not least Patricia Tipple for her very effective stage decoration.
Here's to the next time !
