Patties review of k.d.s free Tampa Florida Concert I need some sleep, but I thought I'd drop off a report before hitting the sack. This may sound sketchy because I'm realllllly tired. It was a very exciting day to say the least. We got to the site around 10:30 this morning and watched them get the staging set up. We (my friend Ed and I) were able to sit in for k.d.'s sound check which was amazing! She did a few songs in the sound check that she didn't do in the concert, like "Curiosity" and "Only Love". Actually, the sound check ended up being longer than the concert itself. We did get to meet her briefly after the sound check, and she signed my IS cd for me. I didn't get to have my picture taken with her because she was really rushed. Even so, she was very gracious and friendly. She joked around with us and was throwing a football back and forth with us. There were a few other fans there, but not many. She was asking everyone their predictions for the Super Bowl (she's a Ravens fan). Being sports-impaired, I simply stared into space during that part. She hung around behind the stage or on the side steps most of the day and we could see her on her cell phone a LOT! Every few minutes, she would make another call. We didn't see Leisha anywhere and there was no mention of a breakup. One thing though...she seemed very happy and I don't remember seeing her smile as much at the last show as she was today. Her grin literally never left her face. As it turned out, k.d. had laryngitis (although you'd never know by her voice). We had a good look at the set list before the show and by the time she hit the stage, she'd made some changes. She was supposed to do "Mind of Love" and substituted "World of Love". She dropped "Crying" altogether. I think it would have been too much on her pipes. She did everything from IS except "Curiosity", "Simple" and "Only Love". She did "Miss Chat" (without the strap-on comment) and "Constant Craving" which she let the audience sing most of it for her. At the concert itself, she was more animated than I've seen her in years, doing her Elvis bit to the hilt. She danced, surfed, boogied, strutted and swaggered. There was even some tongue action! She was VERY flirtatious. She had on tons of beads from the Gaspirilla celebration and threw a few strands out to the audience (I got a purple strand! ). I also was lucky enough to catch Abe's drum stick when he threw it out. Ed and I were right up front for everything, so I hope my pictures turn out good. I took some at the sound check as well. Well, I know that I've left stuff out, but I'll try and add more tomorrow. G'night, folks! Pattie Stuff I forgot... Thanks, Gussie, Julie, Taz (and everyone else too...). Actually, my friend Ed told her that I was the one from A&E. She said she remembered and loved my e-mail (perhaps she was just being polite...I don't care!). Speaking of A&E, this is a biggie that I forgot. I was talking to one of k.d.'s people. I'm so embarrassed that I don't remember his name. He's been with her for years and years, tall, fair skin, graying hair, very thin. Could be her tour manager? He told me that because of the overwhelming response to the A&E show, they are in process of trying make it commercially available on video and DVD! Nothing is written in stone yet, but they're hoping for an early summer release. They are also considering a live CD!!! Clothes, hair etc: Yes, her hair is still very short. During the sound check, she was wearing very baggy dark pants with a jean jacket and for the show, jeans with a black tunic-type long-sleeved shirt (not the same as the A&E show). It was still pretty cool here and her "girls" seemed to be freezing, especially Windy, but yes, k.d. was barefoot. The only reason I think her 'happy' face was not for show is that we saw her off and on all day long, behind the scenes, on the phone, in situations where she was not 'on stage'. She never seemed to stop smiling! It was not to the point of ridiculous or anything, but it certainly was noticeable. She did bring in a lot of people for the show. I kind of felt sorry for Richard Marx because it really dwindled after k.d. left the stage. It was definitely her crowd. Pattie (Thanks to Pattie for letting me steal this from kdlang.com-kf)
