What is RUEDA?
"Casino Rueda", or "Rueda de Casino" in Spanish, started in the fifties at a casino in Havana, Cuba. It came to Miami in the seventies with the immigrants, & has grown in popularity since (now spreading to the rest of the country & the world).
"Casino" describes the style (because it was danced in a casino). "Rueda" describes when two or more couples dance in a circle, and a caller
calls/signals steps (like square dancing).
It is a unique style of salsa dancing, and LOTS of fun!... like an "amusement park ride"!! It can be done anywhere/anytime to any salsa
music. It's quite addictive...once you
start, you don't want to stop!
There are sub-styles: raw, old Cuban style, elegant Miami style, and
flashy L.A. style.
