Welcome to the home page of the restoration of an ex-Lions '55 Chevy Gasser. The car was raced in the 1960s to the early 1970s in the Southern California area, most notably the famed Lions Drag Strip. The '55 held several records in various classes throughout its racing career. When the car was first built as a racer, the straight axle setup was installed at the famed Blair's Speed Shop in Pasadena, CA. Tony Nancy did the interior. A big block Chevy provided the power. A few days after the car was completed, it was stolen and stripped of its drivetrain. After the car was recovered, a new big block was installed. The car was stolen again, and after it was recovered the second time, the owner's father who was footing the bills for the racer demanded the car be sold. The next owner installed a Hilborn injected 301 small block and raced it until 1972. The car ran its last race at Lions in 1972. It won its class on the weekend known as "The Last Race", December 1-2, 1972. The car was then parked in owners yard 30 years before being rescued. |
