6 - THE MOON
The word moon (Qamar), is used exactly 27 times in the Quran when all its derivatives are counted. This number is equal to the number which is the moon’s ecliptic cycle around the world. (We mentioned the Quran’s description of the moon in the 15th and 16th chapters of our book’s first section which is about the scientific miracles) It is mentioned in The Quran that both the sun and the moon are subjects of a calculation. (Gracious 55) As the Quran indicates, it is very interesting that the sun and the moon can be defined in terms of mathematics as the Quran said, and these words are mathematically coded in the Quran as well.
| The word | The number it is used in the Quran |
| Moon | 27 |
| How long does the moon’s ecliptic cycle take? | 27 |
7 - The Months
Since 365 single days occur with the world’s cycle around the sun, the moon’s 12 cycle around the world causes 12 months to occur. The Quran tells that there are 12 months. As we all know, a year consists of 12 months. The following verse mentions this:
…twelve is the number of months with God…
9 – Repentance, 36
On the other hand, in the Quran, the word “a month” (sehr) is also mentioned 12 times to indicate that there are 12 months in a year.
| The word | The number it is used in the Quran |
| A month | 12 |
| The number of the months or the number of the moon’s cycle around the world in a year | 12 |
8 - The Date of the Landing on the Moon
In our book’s first section, chapter 16, we studied the expressions in the Quran which implies man’s landing on the moon. One of the most important of those signs is the first verse of the surah Qamar. There are 1389 verses from this verse till the end of the Quran. The year 1389 in the Muslim calendar is the equivalent of the year 1969 of the Gregorian calendar. And the year 1969 is the year when man first landed on the moon. (On the other hand, it can be accepted that the number 1389 points out that man will land on the moon 1389 years after this verse or the Quran was revealed by God. Because the Muslim calendar starts at a time when the revelation was not completed.)
The Hour has come and split the moon has.
54 – The Moon, 1
| How many verses are there from the first verse of the surah Qamar till the end of the Quran? | 1389 |
| In which Muslim year did the first man land on the moon? | 1389 |
9 - The Land-Sea Ratio
The word sea (bahr) is used 32 times in the Quran. The word bahr is used for both sea and other large waters like lakes and rivers. The word land (berr, yabas) is used 13 times. If we calculate the ratio of 32 to 45 the result is 71.111%.
You may look at any encyclopedia in the world and you will see that the lands cover 71% of the world whereas the seas cover 29%. It is really an interesting miracle that scientific and the Quranic ratios of the lands and the seas are exactly the same. This knowledge which was not known in Muhammad’s era is coded in the Quran with the harmonious usage of the words. People who can get rid of their stubbornness will appreciate this easy to understand, impossible to imitate miracle.
| The Word | The number it is used in the Quran | The Ratio |
| Sea | 32 | 32/45=71.111 |
| Land | 13 | 13/45=28.888 |
| The ratio of the seas in the world | %71 |
| The ratio of the lands in the world | %29 |
