LOW MOOR VERSUS QUEENSBURY
A bad day at the office! Lost a vital toss and were invited to bat first. Started really well, reaching 34 without loss after only 7 overs before Wally walked across his stumps to flick the ball down the leg side, only to miss the ball and be given out LBW. Glen joined Scarbo at the crease but was struggling to time the ball on a damp wicket that was offering plenty of assistance to the bowlers if they put the ball in the right areas. The introduction of Clarke, with his slow, tossed-up off spin, combined with the steady line and length of Bruce at the other end was to be Low Moor's downfall. First Glen played all around a turning ball from Clarke with an attempted defensive stroke, only for Charles to do excatly the same thing two balls later, except this time while trying to hit the ball over the pavillion in a repeat of Stokesy's magnificent effort of the previous match. Scarbo (32) then became Bruce's 2nd victim of the day as he looked to accelerate the run rate, and Andy Oakes followed in the same over to leave Low Moor struggling at 64 for 5. A quick 17 from Rob, and other contributions from Ned and Daniel Bennett ensured we reached a batting bonus point before the last four wickets fell in the space of 24 balls to end the Low Moor innings on a disappointing 103.
The visiting side's reply was not a confident one, however, as two of the top four batsmen fell without troubling the scorers as Queensbury stuttered to 43 for 4, and we were still in with a shout. Then the problems really began as chance after chance came, and catch after catch was put down, and the only breakthrough we could get came when Ned bowled one of our former players (Vijay Singh). With a good slice of fortune, helped by some below average fielding, Queensbury reached a comfortable looking 5 wicket victory, but had we held some of those chances, who knows what might have happened?
MAN OF THE MATCH (LMHT PLAYER) - Scarbo. 32 runs, and 2 wickets in a useful spell with the new ball.
